Whats happening is that they see you as an obstacle so you are being sidelined.... remember .. in the very near future you will have even less input to the running of IT in the school...

I just contacted Computing .net and they have a Magazine as well as a "online" section... Spoke to the Editor of Computing and he knows nothing about the BSF or what destructive impact it wil have on ICT In-House community, inovation, job losses and general stagnation of ICTand massive costs that the BSF ICT would bring.. Or that Outsourcing is being FORCED onto schools He's intrested in doing an article.. so if anyone wants to write to him on how BSF is not a good thing for Schools with good ICT Staff and infrastructure in place or that all the secondary schools in the UK will belong to the big 4 and ICT technicians will just be drones.. email him on [email protected]

Thats not quite true... the only reason tthey said it was better was because of the price diffrence.. We bought an eee and a Stone UMPC... We are now buying 15 Stone UMPC's as they are a better option..

But this is not Future Proofing as one of the main BSF conditions is "Future Proofing".. what happens in 5 years if the ICT comes back in-hiuse ?

Yes and if RM, Redstone, Northgate.. etc build thier own network then they support it better than anyone ;-)

All you do is get a server and put in 2 network card... Put the 10.x.x.x facing the LEA and then the 172 internal and then set the DHCP to 172.. You then have your own range

The problem with this is that the teachers needs to know the name of a good clip.. as we know there is a lot of rubbish on youtube.. We blocked Youtube and there was nearly a riot..... by the teachers :-) LOL so we unblocked it again and only blocked it for the kids... but they use frontpage to bypass Ranger Title Block.. LOL

Why? just put 4 high powered ones up high around the site.. NESW and it should cover everywhere..

Network Managers ?

We use a couple of generic users for the temps... like "Temp1" and whoever takes up the role takes the user account and timetable.

Could someone please send me a step by step document on how to get this working.. as I am stumped 1/ How to see if the server is OK for it 2/ How to instal mysql / sql and how to make an empty database 3/ Where to copy the MLH files (i know it's the root but where is that) Thanks :-)

This already happens... the Teachers Teach, the SLT Leads and the ICT Dpepartment focuses on educational delivery using as much as IT has to offer We have Cashless Catering, Wired and Wireless Network, a Robust Network, A VLE (MLE) is being installed in July, 650 Desktops, 150 Laptops, 85Proemethean Whiteboards, Remote Access for Staff, 9 Servers (some old some new), Every part of the school has IT Infrastructure, CCTV, Access Control, IP Telephony Does this all get handed over or does it get pulled out as most of the Pc's are 2.5 years old.. and some servers are 4 years old.. We already have all this and much more.. and as for the MLE/VLE ("offer many new ways to get educational content to the students and offer teachers better personal control over the content") Well if the Teachers don't load and control the content then who else will ?!? and trust me.. the Teachers are already moaning about the extra IT burden put on them with the MLE/VLE When a teacher buys new software that they think will help the T&L we can have it installed and deployed within a couple of days..free.. Does this happen in Bristol? When a Teacher moves offices we move the PC and Printer that day.. FREE Does this happen in Bristol? What happend to the Network Managers in the Bristol BSF ?

Yes.. and how everybody is jumping on the Outsourcing bandwagon to save money ... that the saving money is a fantasy.. and it ultimately costs more.. a lot more.. also there is a loss of experienced personnel that know the company and have an in-depth knowledge what the companies aims are..
