Hi Guys, I am trying to get my server documentation in order and was wondering if anyone knows of either a bit of software or a script or something that could scan a drive and report back shared folders, their tree structure and also share / NTFS permissions?? Cheers, Glenn.

Thanks smadison! The problem I have is that the time taken to record these events is time that is not spent fixing problems or identifying potential problems. We are a small team and the workload is heavy. How can I impliment this without affecting my teams performance? Cheers, GlennT

Hi Guys! My boss strolled into the office this afternoon and asked me how I "measured" my departments efficiency. [by that, he means how do we analyse our current support levels and then make improvements upon them - then report/document the information]. Apparently, he had been having a discussion with his boss, discussing how they measured teachers efficiency and they wondered about us. So.... I just wondered if anyone does this? I understand that we all have SLA's but from a general support point of view, how do you "measure" your efficiency? By that I mean, is there a way to measure this and represent it in a data format?? i.e. in 2008, the IT department performed at 80%, in 2009 90%. We have a helpdesk [which some staff refuse to use] but it is fairly basic and doesn't record response times or anything like that so I am not sure how to go about recording this data without literally getting my team to log specific details of all the jobs they do then collate the data. Any suggestions would be great! Cheers GlennT.

If your start menu is supposed to be redirected by group policy, try running gpupdate /force on the machine.

I seem to recall we were provided with a list of printers that were compatible. From what I can remember it was not a very big list either! I'm fairly confident the Brother HL-5170 was on the list [as that's the printer in Finance]. I can have a look on Monday when I'm back at work if you like?

Is it /oma rather that /owa? You may need to set that up on your exchange server I think. [never done it myself though].

Did you have any electrical work done over the summer? [i.e. a new run next to the board] Sometimes that can cause a problem.

Hi James, Is this the SWO/SCC Summer Updates CD? If so, you don't need to use the RunMe. [it forces a reboot between each install and is a total pain in the arse!] As each app has it's own folder, you can just create a quick script to point to the installers and use the command line switches i.e. ::================= SummerUpdates.bat ================ :: :: Save this as SummerUpdates.bat :: ::================================================= @echo off P:\SummerUpdates\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU /quiet /norestart Sorry, can't remember all the apps so not sure of switches etc but you should be able to google it. Agreed! However, when I tried this with some of the more "senior" PC's, they failed. Have you tried assigning printers via a logon script?

Would SpecOps work Specops Gpupdate - Remote gpupdate / Wake on lan (WOL) / restart / shutdown ? We use it to force a gpupdate rather than manually logging onto each machine.

Hi Manick! We have just completed the Exchange 2007 transition and had the exact same problem! Are you using ISA? If so, you should check that the authentication on the OWA rule in ISA matches the authentication type for OWA on your Exchange server. By the looks of things, if you check the ISA rule to make sure basic authentication is in there, you should be ok. Good luck!
