  1. We've had to keep repairing it but our team has shrunk (for reasons I won't get in to) and we simply do not have the time to go around classrooms on what feels like a weekly basis to replace them all. So we have essentially taken a hardline stance of we'll repair it when we can. But I completely agree it has gone to absurd levels and I've said it's not sustainable. SLT have seen this and to be fair to them they ordered 100 keyboards and mice out of a different budget but the damage is too frequent and extreme.
  2. Seemed to work! Changing the time in the BIOS might also be a solution but i've given it back to the student so fingers crossed.
  3. Hi Jessica, Infotone will take lots of boxes. Get in touch with them just to double check but they take pretty much all toners to recycle. https://infotone.co.uk/ Great service, they'll send you stickers to print off and put on the boxes and arrange a local courier to collect. After a week or so they'll send over a recycling receipt.
  4. Thank you i'll give it a go.
  5. That is incredible.
  6. Hi all, We still have some of the DFE laptops out to those students who don't have a home device. I've had one come into us today because the time and date is incorrect and according to what they've reported this is stopping them from using an alternative provision service called academy21. Went into the time and date settings and clicked on "sync now" and it just... failed. Ideally I want this to sync automatically for when clocks change but can't see why the time sync would fail. Any ideas?
  7. Could you share where you got the legion PC's from please?
  8. No I missed that but thank you very much really appreciated. I'll go over this with the other staff involved.
  9. Hi all, Resurrecting this post once again. Has anyone successfully rolled this out in a secondary? Some members of staff would like to setup an ESports team but link parts of it into our existing curriculum. Issues I can see with setting up an esports room are: 1. Getting good enough machines, we run some semi decent i5's but not great graphics cards. How much do you estimate a semi-decent build would cost per unit? 2. Accounts, how do you handle this? Firstly logging onto the machine itself and then logins for epic/steam etc? 3. Filtering, how easy has it been for those who are successful getting it through their firewalls? (We use Smoothwall for reference). 4. Limited to certain games, Whilst we have a sixth form the games that could be played would be limited due to age restrictions. (Uni's play CS2 for example) The only real game I've had to setup in a school was when I worked in a small SEND school and we had Minecraft Edu which was easy enough to work with so this is new to me so all your advice on this would be very welcome.
  10. Glad it's working again:D

    CV Creator?

This is probably a good place to start: https://www.cv-library.co.uk/career-advice/cv/cv-templates/cv-template-technical/ You can download a good IT CV template from there. I've recently redone mine myself. I found Google Bard/Gemini very helpful in bouncing ideas of what to write into it. GPT is ok but i've found Gemini's multiple drafts feature and the ability for it to rewrite passages of text to be smaller and more professional is very useful.
  12. This is exactly what we've done. Set a deadline to make it read only and the final deletion. Tell them to put stuff in departmental teams and onedrives.
  13. True, I can't see it happening anytime soon though. It'll be optional until most schools can afford the hundreds of devices to run it. Then you've got to contend with issues with the exams themselves. Examples being SecureClient's release and the recent Oxbridge entrance issues.
  14. Yes, has been slowly increasing year on year. We've reduced the need for laptop's substantially by phasing out Claro Reader and going to reader pens. Those needing a word processor has increased for younger years though. Last summer we really struggled as the exam hall simply didn't have enough power sockets.
  15. Congratulations to Bromcom, can only get better from here. The SIMS market share is going down rapidly.
  16. Yeah fair. And with everything moving to cloud based services it's only going to get more difficult with managing these 3rd party apps.
  17. "Experts are urging schools to keep up with data security requirements and properly vet the platforms they use." I don't even know what to say to that.
  18. This is now covered on schoolsweek and we are mentioned, link to full article here : https://schoolsweek.co.uk/reports-of-data-breach-on-class-charts-platform/
  19. Breathtaking pictures and also mind boggling. My dream is to work at NASA, maybe one day . Also looking forward to the crew9 launch later this year, exciting times!
  20. Thanks all much appreciated.
  21. Hi everyone, I'm looking for recommendations for a waste electrical company that provide a skip or very large bin(s) that myself and the site team can throw things into for them to collect. We're going through a big office reshuffle and we just need to get rid of a LOT of stuff. I'd also assume i'm pushing my luck by putting printers in them and need to make them aware of those separately?

    IT Offices

That's brilliant we have those exact cabinets!
  23. Funny, in their BETT celebration email they celebrated the table talk and tech labs (which were very good tbf) and not Connect @ BETT
  24. This has been discussed here: /forums/mis-systems/236405-classcharts-gdpr-security-issue.html In short yes. We all think it's classed as a breach, they're being very hush hush about it.
  25. First time at Bett today and yes the whole connect at BETT thing did seem quite pointless. They just scanned your QR anyway and didn't expect you at a certain time. I also got carried away with some great conversations with companies I wanted to speak to which meant that I was then "late" or couldn't make it to some companies I booked a slot with. Apart from this and the fact it was very hard to speak to someone at Microsoft I had an amazing time. Shame I can't go for all three days!
