haha I will give them notice cheers for the replies folks. I have contacted them this morning to ask for a copy of our contract as I cannot track one down in school (was purchased before my time)

Has anyone tried to get out of their MLS contract early? I think we are keen to move to AccessIT but we are less than halfway through our current MLS contract...

+1 for UniFi we use the UVC G3 Dome cameras nice little units very cheap do all the install ourselves, ours are setup to record on motion. The unifi software is really nice as well very easy to use we have SLT use it so we don't have to get massively involved in pulling recordings off.

So I viewed AccessIT at a demo yesterday it looked great and price is good. But reading how many people just on here are going over to it is anyone worried about their ability to scale up for the influx of clients they are going to have? Its something I have asked them on email so I will see what they say but if anyone here already has the answer I would appreciate it. I just don't want to walk into another situation like the one with MLS where a system is cripplingly slow and our internet gets blamed everyday.

That might be your first port of call setup a password, you might want to use capital letters numbers and symbols or consider using a pass phrase best of luck

I just emailed them again this morning, we have issues every week 5-10 minutes logging in or loading objects sometimes. It does this on my home internet as well as in school. Their support isn't there and is intent on blaming us for the issues. Absolutely disgusted with it.

If anyones interested we got our internet through Exponential-e they are based in London probably more expensive than most. We are running an on site Rocket on guess what version 3 (about to update to 3.5.1) and we have 100mb dedicated smart line coming into an onsite firewall. This has been in since around March 2017 and its been outstanding our only downtime has been due to power cuts other than that its always working. We have had 1 issue with Rocket box not letting people authenticate one morning but quick reboot on the device sorted it out.

So mine was the other way our login script stopped working a while back I moved everything to gpo. Heres how we set it up; On our DC we created gpo for the rooms/users we wanted to have certain printers so maybe Printer Policy Room 3 for example link it to the correct OU so for us its Room 3 then on the print server under print management I right click the printer I want and do deploy with group policy then link it to the Printer Policy Room 3, do the same if you want more than a couple of computers linked to that policy. Not sure if thats helpful to you let me know if you want more detail.

Chromebooks - do we need GoGuardian or similar?
Griff replied to jmak's topic in Network and Classroom Management
We don't use Chromebooks here but other schools locally just have Lightspeed filtering running and not much else and they don't even have an mdm solution.- 1 reply

How do you currently map your printers to the computers? via group policy or login script?

Identifying badly used computers
Griff replied to itguy77's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Do you use Spiceworks? I know it has an inventory system built into it which can scan your network and the computers on it and may give you some information like disk usage, bios version, all network info and pc specs etc. -
Going down Friday and staying over which makes a nice change

We are a full on Citrix environment here Xenapp, Xencenter, Provisioning servers etc. We run 3 computer labs all 'thin client' or 'provisioned' as I am told. I am hoping to move everything back to vanilla Windows, HyperV, Full fat clients etc. Don't get me wrong here Citrix is fantastic and the whole manage one image thing is very good but in the right environment. Also the knowledge needed imho to run this environment is fairly extensive I want to think of life after ME at this place and just makings things easier. When I joined in here all the admin staff were on provisioned thin client machines, I bought in a couple of full-fat machines and people lost their minds at how much quicker, stable, ENJOYABLE? they were to use I have now moved all the admin and office based staff to fat clients. Am I being a lunatic potentially throwing all of this down the pan to go back to an original setup? I think I could save the school a good £6,000 per year just in fixed costs (licensing and support) thats not to mention future server and software upgrades that would be needed to support Citrix going forward. ok ok I know my work load will increase massively in the short term and maybe rolling out software/updates will be slightly harder but hey FYI we are a middle school around 600 pupils 50 staff, 120 ish desktops, 50 laptops, 100 iPads, 10 physical servers!!!!! (mostly doing Citrixy stuff) So has anyone else done this? and am I nuts? also hi to the support company who do our Citrix stuff and sorry if this upsets you but you gotta question things otherwise you just end up standing still !

Get on the blower to Putin I am sure he can get things moving in the right direction

I normally go on the Friday. Haven't enjoyed the last few years that much I might try and book into the keynotes etc more this year. I just find it quite frustrating, maybe I just really dislike sales people

Guys what regions are you in? we are a non Schools Broadband school and we have had issues since this time last week with unstable internet, just wondering if this is more widespread than just SB. We have had around 3 weeks total downtime since September and we are provided internet via our LEA Central Bedfordshire, they use Updata & E2BN costs us around 10 grand for a 100mb connection + extras. We just signed the documents to move to Exponential-e and Lightspeed on-site cannot come soon enough, I hope the grass is greener. We did look at SB but given the state of things there is no way we could get behind it not just from this forum but feedback from other schools on it. Really hope things improve for those schools having the trouble with it.

If its any consolation we are on a different carrier (E2BN) and our net has been absolutely shocking for almost a week + !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mac+VM+WINDOWS 7+SIMS=NIGHTMARE!!!!!!
Griff replied to Koldov's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
I think if you move it then open it it will ask you if its been moved or copied, if you say you moved it, it shouldn't create new UUID or MAC https://kylebubp.com/2012/05/moving-vm-in-vmware-fusion/ my HT also wants a mac...I would ask you how its working out for you but given this post I assume not great... -
Glad it worked bud I am no expert but I guess it could be Apple have changed server or something we have given up trying to get their stuff unblocked on proxy so we just tether to our phones when doing a lot of setups or logins with Apple stuff.
-
Could it be something on your proxy blocking it from contacting the Apple servers? maybe try connecting to your phone as a hotspot...long shot but most issues we have with Apple products are solved by us bypassing our proxy servers lol....
