Now that could be the config on the physical switches, do you have any access to them at all to check if the ports are configured for 1000 Mbps?
-
I would first start with the Event Viewer on the server see if you can find any errors or warnings happening around the time you were having issues. Use this to try and help diagnose the problem. The other thing it could be is a duplicate IP address so jump into your DHCP and see if there are any BAD_ADDRESS warnings that might indicate a duplicated IP.

I will give you an example of one of my servers NIC setup, I cannot recall why I did it this way so apologies if its wrong but been running this way for 3 years no problems. 5 physical NICS and I name them after the physical switch they go into.. Core 1 Core 2 Core 3 Core 4 Core 5 Edge 1 Then I have 2 NIC teams one is Management the other is called VM All 4 called core go into VM the Edge goes into Management. Load Balancing set to Dynamic and Teaming Mode is Switch Independent on both teams. This is the guy I watched to learn how to-do it all I think he does it via PowerShelll but you can do it via the gui. As far as I am aware I didn't do any config on the physical switches. Also I am based in Bedfordshire so if you ever want to site visit or exchange ideas just reach out.

I think that is the lease duration mines set at 7 days. Thats normal behaviour. As long as the start IP and end IP in properties are correct you're all good. You're in safe hands here just keep posting people will help. I started Edu IT in 2009 and Edugeek has literally been a lifeline.

Worth doing it via Powershell? https://scheissitwiekannichhelfen.wordpress.com/2020/12/02/import-and-export-dhcp-server-settings/ Also it might be worth looking at getting that server upgraded to a newer OS. Sorry if that sounds patronising but 2008 R2 was end of life in Jan.

How are you folks dealing with cleaning them down? each student has to wipe down their laptop after use here but some of them get drowned in antibac its going to nail a laptop soon I am pretty sure.

MFA and also making sure you have Remote Desktop Gateway setup if you're not using a VPN solution. You have probably already seen it but there is a good thread here discussing some of this http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/221119-2fa-rds-connections-how-do-you-do.html Also if you don't already its worth setting up a group to allow remote users instead of just bulk allowing all staff, sorry if that sounds basic but I got caught out big time with this a years and years ago when we got hacked due to an old staff account with remote permissions.

What do you use for customising your Windows10 install?
Griff replied to Sonic007's topic in Windows 10
You could look at something like Acronis True Image on a USB then you could build an image exactly how you want it capture it onto a external drive. Then when you come to deploy boot from USB, plug in external drive and deploy the image. This is how I did things before I got a MDT server setup at this school. -
I just put in a search filter on mine and whilst I get the same message as you it still finds the account I was looking for but I think the reason it says more than one search result as its listing it from finding it in both the Bind DN and the search filter..see my test result below from doing the authentication test. Bind DN: school\username Search filter: (&(uid=username)(memberof=CN=Staff,OU=Staff,DC=school,DC=internal))
-
Here is the settings I use; server: dc.schoolname.internal port: 389 use TSL: off ignore cert: ticked on bind dn format: domain\:user base dn: OU=Staff,OU=All Users,DC=SCHOOLDOMAIN,DC=internal attrib mapping: Displayname: givenName email address: mail Search filter blank for us.

They tried to move us to Every for Helpdesk here but it just wasn't fit for IT. Don't get me wrong for documentation management, contracts and Site helpdesk it works well. I found it for IT clunky to use and dated. It also had no support for receiving tickets via email which is our primary source of tickets coming in. So users would be forced to use the Every portal which meant they just emailed IT staff directly because it was less effort than loading the portal... We use Spiceworks cloud, I tried to move to Zendesk because I really like the analytics you get with it but it didn't happen.

We use https://partnership.education/

We already have our Chromebooks out on trolleys as bookable assets. The rest just being used to support SEND department. Its great timing because the Cyber Essentials cert are trying to get just condemned about 100 iPads lol.

Our site team were using Spiceworks but didn't get on with it. We then moved to Every which they seem to be OK with it. I personally don't like Every from an IT stance maybe for contracts its good but for helpdesk its a no go for me. There is no way of linking it to an email address and I like that users can just email helpdesk@ and it logs a ticket. Every you can only do it via the portal. One I do like is Zendesk and its quite cheap for only a few users. I couldn't justify something paid for though when Spiceworks is free. Also not sure how friendly it would be for a site team.

Yaay thanks just got mine

I would be wary that moving to Jamf you're going to see the same issues if the proxy is not sorted. We have complete autonomy over our internet here and you need so many websites unblocked for these MDM systems to work seamlessly. We are a Lightspeed MDM school have been for 4 or so years and it has become quite clunky but that is down to maybe older iOS on some devices. I have not used Jamf before so cannot comment but people have been recommending https://mosyle.com/ to me for a while.

I would be really keen to know why iPads. We have 100 here and I hate them with a passion they were purchased before my time. They are now slow, broken and outdated. Having to remove apps because they are no longer compatible with current iOS and you cannot update the iOS argh. Case in point here I just had my devices returned they have been loaned out already got 3 broken screens on the iPads, all my Chromebooks so far intact. We have about 100 Chromebooks now they are just a browser correct but if your school is Google based then they are in my view a great option. We are going to be using them to teach year 5 and 6 computing something we 100% could not do on iPads. I just chucked 4 into a classroom and the kids who had never used a Chromebook were straight on to them no problem. Our filtering works really well with them even filters them at home if they take the device away. Again though depends on the need for example we had a maths teacher who wanted iPads but we found they only really required a web browser so we got some £30 kindles stuck them on a kiosk mode on the 1 website he wanted job done.

Was it stolen prior to delivery? because this has happened to me and the DFE are trying to blame it on the school but I 100% known I counted 43 boxes into the reception and 1 was missing.

If anyone knows some alternatives give me a shout...
