Newlink 5 Port USB 2.0 PCI Card with 4 External Ports and 1 Internal Port - Ebuyer Thats a USB PCI card, would prob be less effort and you could connect 4 USB keyboards to complement the music prog and be like Rick Wakeman

not that i know... but they havent pirated a cubase since cubase 3 due to those keys being so hard to crack!! internal USB is the way to go! I have cubase 4 on my PC at home. Just feel lucky that your school has music software ours has 4 iMacs with OS9 and one windows XP computer with 128mb RAM

I always like the GUI route with Ubuntu sudo nautilus Then it brings up a GUI file manager with full root permissions You prob wont have nautilus with Knoppix tho as its KDE i think, could try sudo konqueror instead

Try plugging the device in and goto device manager and uninstall the device + drivers from there. Have you updated all the drivers on the system?

Access the control toolbar and select the Checkbox control, it has a ready made tickbox for you.

If you can try disabling the USB2VGA adaptor in Device manager, it could be that windows is trying to release the driver and its not allowing it to. If this works search for an updated driver to try to get round it. If it still hangs then you could try a system restore to before the device was installed to see if that helps.

ooo that looks nice! Im looking at the HTC touch HD as well, TouchFlo3d is apparently a really good UI for WM6.1 The HTC Touch Diamond 2 should be out Q2 this year so I'm not sure if I should wait for that one as it looks amazing in the video reviews so far

I have just created an access data base which keeps control of stock of cartridges and management of printers throughout the school. It can give you a graph of usage of cartridges through price and / or cartridge units. Will also give reports with remaining carts, ones required in school etc Its still a work in progress but its coming along nicely at the moment if people are interested I can post the work in prog up here.

Not sure, with Windows 7 predicted to be a big player in the netbook dept I don't think its worth taking that step into it. Vista runs so much better with 2+ as well

We are totally RM here atm including some wonderful ancient machines with 20 - 30 min from cold logons I long for a dell or something without RM tagged on the front!

can use Astra32 for a diagnostic list of hardware drivers which are missing.

Have a look at the new HTC phones HTC Touch HD and Touch Pro 2 also if you can wait a while look at the HTC Touch Diamond 2 as its had a lot of improvements since the first version. All of them look awesome too which obviously adds to the geek cred.

That would pose a slight problem!! It will mean you wont be able to upload pictures and anything through Joomla as well. Joomla! • View topic - Installing Joomla on Windows - IIS Guide on how to set it up through IIS on Windows, it is the Internet Guest Account you need not the Guest account. I think it will be a pretty non functional Joomla install without it.

Also if possible get them to run IPConfig from the command prompt and see if the IP is acutally being assigned. A lot of the time with connection issues it will be the fallback 169 IP. If it is that then check the router for a mac filter, which some like orange liveboxes have enabled by defualt (After a time delay). This would have to be disabled to get it on the network.

Joomla should use the www-data user or "nobody" to access and write to files on the server. You will have problems all over if the settings arent correct for the files. I had a linux fileserver and was able to do sudo chown www-data /var/www which worked. Try setting the owner of your joomla directory / files to www-data or nobody (or whatever the web user is called on the server)

yeah ive not really ever seen the point of blogs, some people use them as places to put what I would call articles. But apparently that word has now been replaced by blog.... I suppose you can't say your going on to your pc to do some articling though...

I have been browsing the net for a while now about this issue, found a couple of articles which shed... well a teeny bit of light on the situation. The Legality or Illegality of w32codecs and libdvdcss2 « UbuntuCat libdvdcss - SWiK It seems that the program is both legal and illegal, it is not related in any way to DeCSS which was the one which was actually contested in court and until something happens re the courts it seems to remain a grey area. O dear it seems my research has left me further confused lol o well, nearly time to eat my pot noodle that will solve the issue for a while According to the lower website, its not illegal yet in the US, but it "possibly" breaks the DMCA rules! I hate the word possibly!!

This is my concern :s, ive always used those codecs at home, also useful for 64bit Media Centre playback of MP4 which was a bit of a pain! Our school here is quite rightly strict on all licensing and it gets very confusing with re to these codecs. Im surprised that they can be illegal because they are built from the ground up, its not like they are using copied code to function.

mmm CCCP look interesting, havent heard of that one before. Judging by what people are saying the open source implementations of the MPEG codecs are ok to use in schools? Might go for the FFDShow for a test later on.

Yeah I've been checking that out, I've used that before as well, great program but the site states that the libdvdcss library is technically illegal in a lot of countries :s I belive that is the case over here. Glad to see that its one vote for a really good program tho Just a sidetrack here, but it seems that the more u pay for DVD software the more slow and memory hogging it seems to be.... Weird that huh?

I know this thread has been posted many times, but I was just wondering what schools do for DVD playback? Currently we are buying PowerDVD OEM for each PC which needs DVD playback, and locally installing it . In the past I have always used MPC for DVD playback on XP but I am a little concerned about the legalities of doing this in a School. Obviously a free codec like ffdshow would be ideal as it would allow editing through windows movie maker as well for MP4 files but through reading a lot of the posts on this forum I am confused about the fact that an open source implementation of it still is breaking the mpeg patent (or something like that!) making it illegal :s Anyhow as you can probably see I'm mightily confused about the whole subject now!
