More like Microsoft with every passing minute
Jamo replied to cookie_monster's topic in General Chat
And the fact you have to "Jailbreak" it to run Monkey Island.... i mean what is that about.... get your priorities right Apple!!! I saw this the other day and saw it as such bad business practice, down with the Apple! -
you could put a shortcut in the startup folder? Prob the easiest way.

I believe the mythbusters disproved this theory and a turd can be polished to quite a shine

Im not sure ROTT would go so well in schools! Although iirc it does have that handy feature that you press a key combo and it displays a screen shot of a DOS prompt
-
My favourite!! I cant wait for the re-done version! its gonna be amazing!
-
Does it have an external HDMI port? Its not to do with the HDMI-CP (content protection) is it? Check for a driver for the display on the Acer site or download from the original chipset manufacturer.
-
Yeah that is probably my biggest gripe with that! its not exactly a short command either!

If you goto My Computer in the ubuntu menus and try to access the drive it will give you the code you need to type in in the dialog box, there is no need to search for it, just add sudo in front and you have mounted the drive

I'm re-learning C++ and hopefully going to create a game project over the summer!

Yeah I'd agree with keep looking around while you are working as the job market isn't exactly brimming with jobs at the moment! I would think I'm in the same boat as you, its hard to push ideas forward when people aren't confident you can "pull them off" (despite having a working model ready) or feel it isn't well enough supported. (Moodle in this case, instead I have spent HOURS of my time creating, room by room, a website in fronter, which, for the record, is so slow I could have gone to norway and sat in their server room and flown back in quicker time.)

Yeah my brother managed to get a 30gb vertex from ebay for not much at all the improvment in responsiveness of the OS is incredible even just from one! i really want one now! although anything bigger than 30gb would be nice

You can test if its hardware or software based by running a Linux distro like Ubuntu's live CD. Just boot from the disk and if the mouse is OK, its software based and if its still rubbish its hardware! You could lift the keyboard and get rid of the mouse connection if its hardware? Or disable the internal mouse in device manager?

Setting up new batch of teacher laptops
Jamo replied to featured_spectre's topic in How do you do....it?
It is frustrating for teachers when the IT in schools seems to be geared towards making their jobs harder rather than easier! Can totally understand it from an admin pov though. A dilema! -
This is a terrible idea, its like encouraging a virus to spread! Surely the more it multiplies the more chance it has to mutate to a more aggressive form. By at least taking precautions you are not gonna be helping the mutation process!

O btw you dont need %Username% in that as the type of GPO you are applying here automatically creates a folder for each user as it says. Just point it at a UNC share (With server name )
-
Is it not normal to create a share dir and then point through a UNC path to the location. Eg for a share called \\UserProfiles\ \\UserProfiles\%Username%\AppData

I use Cubase4 full version with a couple of Orchestral VSTi's I bought from EastWest. Such a good setup I recorded a few bands over time as well. http://www.mypspace.com/cursingcaroline for my music efforts /End shameless plug I used the Motu 828 for inputs, with a proper ASIO soundcard device you should be able to get the latencys to less than 100 samples which is unnoticable even when laden with VST effects.

SimulAnalog Guitar Suite Found it!! Check those out they are by far the best guitar sims. (Interesting to put some synth through too, gives a really dirty tone to a simple sine sound)
-
Ouch... looks like you dust off that dial up modem again!

VSTi is a virtual instrument. VST is a plugin architecture for the Cubase family of software although I tihnk its open to other softwares as there is a plugin for Audacity now for VST. It can be the reverb effects or the EQs or basically anything you add into Cubase. I would think that the teacher would mean VSTi as the VST plugins dont have to look much at the harddrive as they are raw processing plugins usually. A VSTi usually accesses a large collection of data files to reproduce a more realistic sound than can be achieved through standard FM Midi. If its a VSTi issue it couldbe permissions related :s Our setup here is 4 *hand me down* iMacs with OS9 and one XP computer with 128MB ram which is so slow the hard drive thrashes when you click the start menu. Just incase anyone has a home PC setup with cubase or any VST plugin app... I found an awesome plugin, it emulates a JCM900 and is a great sub for a real guitar amp in a home setup. Defo not perfect but its acutally better than all the paid for ones ive tried and the best part about this one is it was free. Its a uni project from the US. I cant remember the exact site so I would Google JCM900 VST as it will be there somewhere!

It seems awfully complicated!! With apache (I know we are IIS here) you can set up Vhosts which allow you to host multiple sites on one IP. Using a wildcard (*.webaddress.com) forwarding to my host IP I could set Moodle.website.com http://www.website.com anything.website.com up as the domain was still forwarded to my machine. Surely there is a way to do this under IIS!!

lol i think there was a good episode of QI with PenIsland.com and some others. Can't remember them now but they look so innocent when they are CamelCased but must have slipped through the net when they were decided on!!

He was aquitted of one. Obviously still proven guilty in your eyes though.
