  1. can anyone guess what it is?
  2. Thing is i haven't fiddled with it. All direct from manufacture's and not modified in any way shape or form.
  3. i've just worked out our cost per page on an OKI c5650, OKI C5650n Data from humanities sep09-jan10 Cyan 0% (2k) Magenta 40% (2k) Yellow 40% (2k) Black 50% (8k) Cyan drum 74% Magenta drum 74% Yellow drum 74% Black drum 55% Belt 85% Fuser 86% Mono page count 4662 Colour page count 3494 Working on reams being £1.75 (jhs 5/3/09) Allowing £45 per toner, £35 a drum, £60 a fuser and £60 a belt, the total cost of consumables used is; £ 210.50 for 8156 prints, making it 2.58p per page average. See attached spreadsheet for calculations. OKI calculations.xls
  4. It's comming together.
  5. Yes and no, yes they have access to it as a managed learning resource (managed by the teacher), but they don't have access to it from their own user accounts for them to abuse and waste learning time on. Yes it is possible to do that. Using a mix of DNS and apache you could redirect all requestes to a site where the CSS is overlaid. One of the torrent sites i used to use did something simalar.
  6. Not forgetting the duct tape.
  7. We allow Teachers access to youtube but not students.
  8. Sort of, in the folder - you need the MSI, MST and the ini file. Within the ini file you need to specify the MSI and MST. Then you to the import from RMMC, don't move the files directly into repoman, use RMMC.
  9. Rite so - get a table and cut hole in top, mount screen in hole. Wack PC under the table off we go. What standards do we need to meet?
  10. tut tut tut. It's good but I've never really looked at the inner workings of it. Maybe we can.
  11. shouldn't do - there not high voltage so pose no dangerous risk and should not be accessible to the user to touch anyway. It should all be earthed to the chassis, which is earthed to the PSU, which should be earthed to the mains.
  12. Rite - dare i say this. Providing i have the money, i would like to make one for Edugeek for BETT 2011. Thats if they want one? I get the hardware back tho after it. So like a loan.
  13. I work for the council directly and they have an every year policy, so all of my lovely audio equipment that the centre has gets tested by some contracted numpty who sticks labels over serial numbers and fails some of it because it isn't grounded correctly, although it is. At the school, almost every bit of kit we use gets a visual inspection as part of it's day to day maintenance so it's easy for me to say every year. Would i actually do one every year - no because if it's still working (ie no ones moaned to us) then it's probably still electrically fine. If it isn't is should trip an RCD/RCBO, so we get a call, and it gets an inspection to find a fault. Anyway I/we go off topic. For swapping a PSU over, if it's new i wouldn't PAT test it. If it had already been PAT tested i wouldn't test it again for some time. If it's fitted correctly then there should be no real need.
  14. The thing is, I don't use that cache/proxy, i use the one upstream from it, so my requests aren't in there. So 20K requests from one user??? That surely seems to many. Even with me, 20K between the pair of us?
  15. Yep, we have that feature. I remember the person telling me that he doesn't do that on our PC's. Or any other devices with low voltage elec's.
  16. Have seen that before but still makes me laugh. Thanks for that tech_guy.
  17. This is pretty much what a PAT test is, but there are more things on our in house PAT tester, but i'm not trained to use it. Any change to a PC should in theory require a PAT test, as you have changed the make up. New equipment should also be PAT tested as it may have been damaged internally while in transport. But as with everything like this, the person doing the PAT test should decide what does need doing and when. If you don't have one (someone who's in charge of it) ask up you line management until someone gives you a definitive yes/no, or insist it gets done if your worried about it. Most faults we will be dealing with as technicians will be ones easily identifiable by visual inspection, anything that is still suspect should go to an electrical engineer, along with yearly checks on most equipment that's in use. That's my professional opinion.
  18. LOL great idea.
  19. See attached.
  20. Or be really geeky and build the whole stand from them. Smart may get touchy tho - no touch table it is has to be ikea.
  21. You'll need switches that can cope with this also. But when it comes to upgrading OS to 64bit, they will see more than the 3GB or so. But in saying that, our server is 32bit and see's 4GB. hummmmmmm....
  22. Nope - got installed with all network gallery ect, but not the key. Maybe i put the wrong key in - will have a look into it again soon.
  23. We have 100+ users and our server is 8 core Xeon 1.86GHz (2 quads), 4GB RAM, 146GB RAID set - I think in RAID 1 hardware, we only use about 30GB. Windows server 2003 standard edition 32bit SP2. Go for the best spec you can afford. Don't forget good NIC's.
  24. Our HT has done 4K since September i think on his own. We have Pcounter but don't use it regularly.
