Theres an edugeek facebook group?! Ive got no problem posting myself on any other forum but Ive made some effort (often to no avail) to keep myself anonymous on here so that would ruin it somewhat

No wonder magpies get a bad name for themselves

Not overly bothered but how do I go about getting the Beta?

I want your job! I imagine extensive testing of all the consoles will be needed

aka RAD Studio for some reason. Has anyone deployed this? This is the first app I've found with not only no MSI's, but absolutely no information on deployment anywhere on the net (It doesnt help that being a development package, typing in 'delphi deploy' just returns results about deploying apps created with Delphi) It takes ages to install, so ANYTHING to stop me having to do it manually would be appreciated

lol I was thinking the same - imagined a server sat on a table in the corner of the changing room of a leaky pavillion Like someone else said, you cant cover every eventuality. The best you can do is have something, be it electronic or paper in the school office. If that is what is on fire, then well there isnt a lot you can do. If theres a decent evactuation procedure anyway, with staff checking toilets etc as they are leaving buildings, the chance of anyone getting left in there should be VERY slim. Problems would only arise with staff, who are the ones likely to be off site without signing out

Maybe it just really wants you to make some music

We just bought an incredibly quick laser printer for the school office. Though as stated, that would be useless if the servers were on fire What about some sort of script that would export/copy them locally to a laptop each morning/afternoon? That could be connected to a printer via USB and could print out at will

Im not a great master of SQL, I've installed MSDE and SQL Express and have apps using them but I dont know much so I could do with some help. Ive got a server with 2 apps needing SQL databases on. The apps are Policy Central Enterprise and Visual Audit. Originally, both ran on MSDE (if thats the proper name - the old free one anyway) but recently we had a big upgrade to Visual Audit which I think required me to install SQL Express 2005. I installed this, but as I wasnt too bothered about converting the DB or anything (since Visual Audit has an import tool) I just installed it alongside MSDE and created a new database. Now, however, I need to upgrade PCE as well, and that too needs SQL 2005. There are instructions on how to install it and keep your settings, but I cant do this because I already have 2005 installed. So somehow I need to convert the PCE database to 2005 and ideally remove MSDE to stop the confusion in the future. But Im getting confused on how to do this, not least because both the MSDE and 2005 service managers seem to see both databases. How do I go about this? Im sure its doable and probably quite easy, but Im getting a bit confused

We had one given to us free after we bought a load of equipment off someone. Logitech one I think. In the politest possible way, it was a heap of crap. Maybe they've got a bit better but I wouldnt hold my breath

congrats im pretty sure the payments i make are less than the interest accrued. Quite how they think they're going to get it back that way I dont know I would like mine off my back though

Sorry to be even more of a grinch but selection boxes annoy me too! Nothing wrong with chocolate of course but it just seems wasteful putting it in a huge plastic tray 3 times the size of the stuff. I have the same gripe with easter eggs

Same. If I really needed something I'd ask for it, but then if I needed it that badly I'd probably have bought it myself. So I dont want anything. I certainly dont want anyone going out and buying some stupid novelty gift that I "might like" and playing right into retailers hands. I do love Christmas (despite being an atheist) but its more about having time off and spending time with family than presents for me

I cannot work out how or why this has happened. For some reason, out of nowhere, a whole year groups permissions have just done something really weird. They all used to be set as year10 group have permission to list folders, this is set at the year 10 folder level. That bit is still working. To give them all full control of their own folders, I used CACLS when I was creating the folders, they all had full permission and that was inherited down to anything they create. For users that arrived later, I let AD create the folders when I created the user and put the path into the home drive box. Now, unlike all the other years, every user (bar 1 or 2) in year 10 has their name in the ACL, but everything is unticked except special permissons. I go into advanced, and it does confirm they have full control, but only over that folder - not all child files and folders. So if we put a file in their docs for them (as we just had to do which is what made me discover this) the permissions dont propogate down and they cant access the file. And the strangest thing is that it says that them listed as full control is inherited from the parent folder??? How can that in any way be possible? The parent quite obviously is NOT set with each of their usernames on the ACL so why is it saying it is inheriting it? To make it worse, when I try and use CACLS to set the full permissions again, I get 'the data is invalid' - the path and syntax is 100% right, I can guarantee that - it works on other folders fine. It does however work manually. But what is going on? Why is it all screwed up so much?

I doubt its your RAM, its probably Nova-T for the reasons stated above - its a 16bit app (i think) I've had loads of similar errors from it though not quite that many!!

I wish we had that option. Our phone doesnt show us who is calling. I also wish our reception staff had a bit of common sense and realise that we really dont need or want 25 different IWB suppliers phoning us

Im no expert at all but surely they have to drill at least a small hole else how would they find out? Personally I'd just let them and not be anywhere near while they were doing it. We had a complete Asbestos survey done, I've got a copy, but they have called every block and room different names, so its almost impossible to find out if it is in certain rooms

Yeah that sounds like the easiest solution. I do this anyway because it looks the most similar to an XP logon screen so minimal confusion

lol @ the DPA We've got thousands of photos, some on the website, some in printed literature, some just stored on the shared area. Have some of those got kids in that have left? Of course. Is it possible or feasible to go through them all and try and work out who is who? Of course not

Oh! Didnt realise that Yeah server and clients are bound to AD - only use the xserve for home areas and od managed prefs Done it via login items and it works perfectly, just as I wanted it. Thanks!

This was my costume on Friday night: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41Zc5AvC3aL._SL500_AA280_.jpg :D Although I was a little embarrased that there were kids at the party I went to. Tell you what though, nothing has ever got me so much attention from random women before!

Art department has decided they want a shared area for the macs. Dont really want our already massive Windows shared area eaten up even further so decided to create one on the mac server. The problem is accessing it. They dont mind using Connect to Server but I would rather it was a bit easier to access. So I have tried to set it up to automount. In the automount config, I've set the protocol to AFP, custom mount path of /Network/Shared. In protocol options both 'share this item using AFP' and 'Allow AFP guest access' are ticked. Permissions are set to everyone read + write and windowsdomain\users read + write When I log in (as anyone) and go to network, the shared folder is at the top but when I try to access it I get "An unexpected error occurred (error code -43)" which apparantly just means 'file not found' Ive been following this forum thread - Apple - Support - Discussions - Shared Applications automount - Error ... and at the bottom one guy says he sorted it which is what I've been following but had no luck. What I want to know anyway, why do I have to have guest access on? Its not a massive deal for a shared area but I wanted to have it so only teachers could create folders and stuff like that, so if everyone authenticates as guest its a bit pointless

I have got 2 of my own - a 1.5Ghz Centrino and an iBook G4. Both decent enough machines for web browsing but they struggle when I try anything too intensive on them, hence why I use work's. Never bought a new laptop (or desktop for that matter) of my own - always relied on secondhand or free stuff, mainly because I just cant afford it! Aside from that Ive got a server for my music/videos - which is an old P4 in a nice case. Did use to have loads of equipment - but moving out of a huge room at my parents into a flat put paid to all that
