If multiple had gone it's likely a teamed NIC issue which isn't uncommon with driver updates. Also what's the host OS? 2022/2025 also have deprecated NIC teaming via the server manager, so wonder if an update might have enforced that? You now need to manage those teams with powershell (SET teams? Only did ours a couple weeks ago and already forgotten!) That will certainly include clustered configurations. Really well surprisingly. I'd heard it was possible so gave it a go, found it just worked. Just have to put some information in the username & password for the connection but it's just generic random fluff so it isn't blank. So far it's more stable than the Sky router ever was! Ours used to crash every week and need a restart, a replacement did the same - that and the need to try and limit my kids' screen time made me want to try it.

Very good to hear! I had a play with Pihole at home but ultimately decided on using opnsense instead so I could just get rid of my awful sky router. Same plugins pretty much and work wonders, even with the pesky ads in mobile games!

Does anyone do anything fancy with their VOIP for backup failover? From what I understand it's a manual process of getting your supplier to switch the IP which takes time in itself.

It really doesn't look like it - have been following this since announcement and it feels very much more like an IP grab than any sort of proper Carmageddon. It might appeal to the mainstream perhaps, but if you want something modern and more akin to the originals then Carmageddon Max Damage is your best bet - at least it was made by the people actually involved in the game to start with unlike this. Happy to be proven wrong though, will wait and see.

Not sure if this is best suited to Cloud Services for the cloud backup, or Windows for HyperV so please move if necessary! Anyway, after a tweak of our server estate I'm looking at how our Redstor is set up. Previously we were clustered, so were unable to use Redstor to backup hyperV VM's natively. Now we can. Redstor's guides state not to double up the backups but it's wise to back up via the host hypervisor and only back up individual VM's if you are going to need file level restoration. That makes sense to me - so I'd exclude our file server from the hypervisor backup and have the ESE installed on that VM. However this is where it gets a bit murky and wondered if anyone knew the party line So in Redstor console, the HyperV tab lists all the detected VMs. I can right click and exclude the file server. What it doesn't do however is exclude the files - so if I then go to the File tab, the necessary folders for the VM and the VHDs are not excluded and nowhere does it appear to state they should be. Should I exclude them manually? I did somewhat over-complicate the best-practice, so I have the VMs and snapshots stored on a separate drive to paging files and VHDs, but I don't think that makes a difference.

I've been skeptical about these pouches, mostly because frankly they shouldn't be necessary. However keeping track of everyone is damn near impossible these days especially as staff are increasingly loaded with responsibilities. It's difficult enough in some lessons, and some of these kids are absolutely addicted. At the start of no-phone policies with confiscations on site, I've seen kids bring in dummy phones for that exact purpose - they "hand" that in and keep using their actual device. So perhaps they are an increasing necessity. There is a problem, kids spend FAR too much time on their phones. I see it with my own, I see my own son piddling away his grades because he's playing games on his phone - more than aware I flunked 6th form myself because I spent every spare minute playing Virtual Pool on the school's shiny new 486 computers. Same problems, smaller screen.

Keep it simple - either use different addresses and change when you migrate over, or use different networks either physical or virtual to keep them fully separated - but you'd then need to set that up on your router/gateway too if you need internet access. Just using separate addresses to start with is easier.

Depends - if they're properly old and no longer supported then they're not going on the wifi in any capacity, so use will be limited. We have around 6 that were being disposed, but were also aware our PE team needed something to take videos on. No requirement to download them, just take the videos and just view. So they now have 6 shiny ipads for this purpose We have a couple of other ones that work as kiosks but mitigated against risk by only allowing connection to the service they're used for - still down for replacement in next budget though. As bad as it is, much of it is risk management and what certain people will do if you get compromised and it turns out one of these may be the issue.

As above - you have no option to control storage or processing of data with ChatGPT, nor can you tell it not to use your data to "improve it's algorithms". You can "control" what data is used by policy, but that relies on humans doing what they're told and not uploading documents full of PII to it. Once it's there, it's effectively a data breach.

You're using workspace, don't use Office... ChromeOS Flex? A lot of boxes ticked right there. Security, management, office via google apps etc.

How do you balance the amount of information in such a booklet/wiki/FAQ and getting staff to actually read or refer to it?

I'm currently attempting to find a workable solution for our hybrid environment. Windows across the board with a decent number of Chromebooks. Google Workspace setup otherwise. For staff this is easy - DriveFS means they can easily access their drive & shared drives and the only "local" storage they have is their Downloads folder which they understand is for temporary storage. If something happens, it's gone and not backed up. Students however is the sticking point. DriveFS isn't a workable solution without either going down the GCPW route (this means having to use Smoothwall entirely via browser plugin, not something I'd want to do) or far too many logins on a shared PC for a student. "Obvious" solution is to make sure everything they do is cloud based. Get rid of local Office, doable. Adobe CC - named licensing, cloud storage, doable. Examwritepad we can still run locally due to dedicate accounts, not a problem. There's a few little apps here and there which might be sticky but I'm sure we can figure those out, but in the meantime I'd quite like a solution where DriveFS is usable so we can at least get the year over and done with as we are. Has any achieved this?

Classroom.cloud. Advertising "Supports MV3" at this point in time is surely like advertising a 4K ultra HD 3D TV with "COLOUR!!!" as a major selling point? Not important but little things like that make question *everything* about a company and/or their products

I would be surprised if anyone is brave/daft enough to go down the Hik route. As much as I love their hardware generally, software is poor and there's still always that big question mark hanging over the company as a whole. Yeah I imagine you can annex it off like you can their CCTV, but that's still a big commitment. And if it goes wrong - what's the level of support like with the installers and partners we use?
