128GB for students, 256 for staff, although don't buy anything under 256 these days. Doesn't hurt anything, profiles are cleared out on logoff for students and staff local profiles don't build much up - google file stream is set to live only.

We've been buying Asus 14" models for our 6th formers and they're fairly decent, especially for very minimal cost. I'm not sure what the current equivalent would be, but last year we bought them HP X360 chromebooks and those are very lovely and very handy! We had the lower end spec though, so would spec up just in case. And plenty of chromebooks are upgradeable in terms of RAM and some SSD too, just to piddle on the bot's parade a bit there

Morning good folks! I have an annoyance I could do with removing - unfortunately my kids aren't old enough yet so they'll have to stay put, but in the meantime. Adobe Creative Cloud INSISTS on opening an Edge browser window upon student login for them to log into their Adobe ID. Edge isn't the default browser anyway, so I have no idea why it's doing this, and I'd prefer them to sign into Adobe only when needed, not when forced. Has anyone had the same behaviour and been able to combat it please?

This is why I decided to DIY my head unit system rather than use android auto - it's an older car with a space for a nav unit. Had a 7" android tablet in to start with, and now runs a raspberry pi 4 with LCD instead. Capable of android auto, but not worth it - just has android installed with apps for the audio, google maps etc My phone just got too hot even when plugged in, and preferred not to have trailing cables nor use wireless charging.

If you're paying £29 for licenses, get a better supplier - we pick them up at 26/27 at most. Only a couple of quid but over multiple devices that adds up. And also, be very careful about paying for them before having the workspace for edu tenant set up, otherwise you could lose them as they'll not have anywhere to be registered to!

Hi all, Sort of a plug really - I've posted my idea regarding a local cache for Bromcom at https://ideas.bromcomcloud.com/ideas/BRCM-I-7000 - if you think this is a good idea, please give it a vote TLDR: an optional local cache installable on any device in a school making it suitable even for serverless setups making it possible even during an outage (whether it's bromcom, your own internet, routing issues etc) to view critical information such as registers, medical, contact etc. May be nonsense but easily achievable even by my very modest skillset and could offer a great USP and unmatched availability.

Every junction/connector in a HDMI run adds a few meters worth of impedance, and some chipsets are more picky than others when it comes to signal strength. Hence a 5M run that has a faceplate adds 2 connection points, making it nearer a 10m run. Had great success in the past using EDID emulators but at around £15 each not really a cheap solution in bulk

3CX is a clear winner for me. I've had excellent past relationships with Trilan and a current good relationship with Southern Communications (although the latter is an utterly awful system called Splicecomm, which I wouldn't recommend. Not the supplier's fault )

Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead 2 have had most of my time over the last couple of years - probably around 1000 hours combined. Occasionally dive into Fallout4, and looking forward to Outer Worlds 2 as quite enjoyed the first. Of course I've ran through Doom and Eternal but they don't hold much replayability for me. Yet to try the new Doom.

That's bloody expensive if that's just a connection and not including filtering or anything. However for such a small school, do you really feel the need for extra speed over and above a gig? Redundancy is never a bad thing; my recommendation at that level would be along the lines of looking for a cheaper connection and either doubling up for full redundancy (and of course if you need the speed then that's an easy option too) or a second, much cheaper but slower connection as backup. 4/5G mobile data, FTTC etc. As long as your termination hardware supports it all, you should be able to get both connections for roughly the same cost (depending on location of course)

Yes it's a breach, and I will also echo @paulkerton's comments and recommendations. From an IT perspective all you should probably be involved with, if at all, is to provide advise on correct use of email, bcc etc but even that's a bit of a reach. I honestly believe any school seriously considering SIMS in any current or future state as a viable MIS is either out of touch, severely misinformed, ignorant or rather masochistic.
