Because they've given "Windows 10 Enterprise and Education" an end of support date, rather than end of support for 21H1 or 20H2. Ie they won't be doing any updating to Windows 10 at all past 14th October 2025.

Thank you for reminding me to do my semi-regular "Has Pepe the Frog appeared?" profile photo sweep. We generally want children to be able to express themselves, so we leave profile pictures available for them (at the moment, I know Bromcom were working on profile photo sync but I'm in two minds whether we should do that) but there are certain expressions of self that end up as a call for a little intervention!

Also, whilst I play Halo for the story, I think 90% of people play it for the multiplayer primarily - and as it'll be free to play now, the whole "I've paid for this, give me what I paid for" element is gone. Hell, even the single player is "free to play" if you're already paying for Game Pass (yeah, i know its not free, but you just get it for no extra) So it's probably sensible to not date it exactly. Only issue I have is, is that I can't convince my friends to play anyhting but Warzone and FIFA two games I'm throughly sick of now. Just those two in rotation. Nothing else ever. I can't even convince them that the extra £3 a month for 150 games on demand is worth it, frankly! They're cumudgeonly sticking to Xbox Live Gold. I'm hoping Among Us and Party Animals might wedge them out of their mediocrity.

Because Halo is a massive, massive hype train they've already had to delay once. Starfield is a new IP that they can afford to delay (though I get the feeling they're probably targeting an earlier finish and have dated so far out so it will release on time) and Stalker 2 was a cult hit last time, so they can afford to date it and delay it if needs be. Halo Infinite has already had one delay, so they're not dating it beyond a release window to allow them some flexibility. Remember the Cyberpunk 3 week delay furore?

It's looking likely, from a user's viewpoint, that it'll be a Windows 10 update branded as Windows 11, rather than a whole refresh ala the jump from XP > Vista > 7. They're suggesting new features for it that I already have due to Windows 10 Insider, for example.

So depending on which version of GAM you want, you need to change the URL on the following command GAM : bash <(curl -s -S -L https://git.io/install-gam) GAMADV-XTD3 : bash <(curl -s -S -L https://git.io/fhZWP) If you want to do an upgrade, its the same command but with the flag -l So if it tells you there is an upgrade to do when you run a GAM command, let it do what you've asked and then run the bash command with -l I just use everyday GAM myself. Thing is a) It all depends where they are now, and b) It assumes that in 5 years things won't be drastically different in regards to hardware/services that are available. I don't believe that they're really all that bothered about competing with, or being able to run on the Macbook and the M1 processor. I think they're looking at being to run Windows properly on ARM devices to combat Chromebooks and for server use moving forward. Its your Mediatek, Rockchip, Qualcomm and Exynos chips that they're thinking of here ultimately. M1 is exciting, and it's great to see ARM architectures are battling at the top end, but I don't think that is Microsoft's play.

Thing is, more and more the actual OS you're using is becoming less and less relevant. Once people realise that for 90% of most people (and clearly not the people here) all they need is a browser these days. If Windows 11 is a chargable upgrade, I know I'm likely not to go to it.

I think this is basically a repaint of Windows 10. I would be very surprised if Windows 10 users won't just be able to upgrade in-situ. I think it's more of a branding exercise to encourage those who aren't quite so tech savvy as this audience to buy new hardware.
