You should find that while the numbers are on the back, they are actually on the electronics bit. You shoud be able to peer around the back, through the gap and see it printed up the side! We have noted all ours down using this method! In future we will make sure to write them down before we get rid of the delivery note! Just check also the penpot, as Witch said, on the newer ones, they are on a little strip that pulls out from behind. HTH Andy

I, and I would guess the others who suggested it, don't mean switch ISPs. Just buy some external web hosting. FTP your site there. cPanel, or similar to set up your MySQL DBs, nice and easy, no messing - your broadband connection stays with your current supplier - you don't have any additional connections into the school which would contravene your T&Cs. You could get some really reasonable hosting nowadays. And if they won't point the name anywhere else, it is a simple matter to have your "official" site redirect to somewhere else I would think. Andy

For future ref. I think you'll find Select doesn't cover OS licenses in this instance. The only XP/Vista licenses available on Select are upgrades, i.e. the machine should have a qualifying OEM license already. These are around £70-80 last time I checked IIRC. I gather some people find Windows 98 licenses for a fiver and go from there! Just a FYI Andy

Would you mind mentioning how much they were Witch? Just out of interest. Replacement projector remotes were £75!! Pens have come down quite a bit now, especially if you buy a few. Andy

What's gone wrong? We have a bunch of these (seemingly more going fairly regularly) where they power up, i.e. the fans go round and everything, but nothing is output to the screen, whether onboard or an AGP card. We struggled to get replacements, in fact it was hard work finding any board which we could utilize the chip and memory on. We seem to have settled on one from ASRock. Andy

I think you can do this with RIS, but I don't know much about it - I'm sure a bunch of people will be along in a moment that do Alternatively, you don't have to do it with RIS, if you buy the full version, on the CD you get 3COMs Boot Services. I gather you can do a similar job with that - IIRC you don't get it as part of the trial. We are using Ghost here. WE just install the Ghost Boot partition from a pen drive at the moment, if the machine doesn;t already have an exisiting image on - then we can just remote install the Ghost client. We may look at PXE later on. Andy

I have it downloaded and written to DVD here haven;t installed it yet, though I have installed VMWare ready for it. I left it downloading overnight - I risked it without a download manager. Andy
