I can only talk about DNA as I haven't used Impero. Our main reason for choosing DNA was for the easy safeguarding feature which has allowed us to completely pass this on to the pastoral staff and requires no technical input. We automatically install the DNA agent on on computers and it's been useful for creating dynamic queries of hardware and software. Also, the option to block USB pen drives has been very useful. The internet metering gives a good overview of actual use, because it reports on when a browser has had focus, rather than when it's running behind a windows. We don't use it to deploy packages as we use Group Policy and SCCM for that.

We moved from Smoothwall to Barracuda, mainly due to frustrations with promises for Smoothwall that never materialised and the increased cost when it came to renewal. We got a good deal on a Barracuda NextGen Firewall and Web Filter so took the plunge. So far we're happy. Having a separate firewall has been a big advantage over the Smoothwall UTM. It's a fairly steep learning curve so probably worth paying for a days engineer time when it comes to install. I'm happy to answer any specific questions if you have any.

Yes, that's the script we use. We run it a couple of times a week with a 2 week retention.

We use the free edition of Veeam to do some backups and use a Powershell script run from a scheduled task to do the backups.

Sorry if I misunderstand what you're trying to do... We just allow pupils to have Logoff and remove shutdown, restart, sleep and hibernate - you can still shutdown or restart once logged off from the logon screen. GP to do this is under User -> Admin Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar -> 'Remove and prevent access to Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands'. 'Remove Run menu form Start Menu' is there too.

I'm another very satisfied NetSupport DNA user. The eSafety aspect alone makes it worthwhile, especially as it's simple enough for non-technical staff to get to grips with; this allows us to pass on the monitoring responsibility to year heads and pastoral teams. Also, the development cycle is very good, with new features and improvement appearing quite often.

Create a new Windows 10 computer OU and setup new Group Policies - there are additional settings for Windows 10 that you will probably want to use and this is a good opportunity to do that. You should find that user settings from Windows 7 will work pretty well.

Thanks. Netgear and D-Link don't use Trunk and Access, they use Tagged and Untagged instead. As I understand it, Untagged is the same as Access and Tagged is the same as Trunk. I've set the connection as Trunk on the Dell and Tagged for the VLAN on the Netgear switch.

I thought I'd post an update on where I'm up to. I bought a Dell N3048 switch and I've set this up on the bench with a DHCP server and a couple of test workstations. I've got three test VLANs setup and DHCP is working for all of them and routing is working too; which is great. Now comes the problem. I've tried connecting a second switch but I can't get the VLANs to work. The test switches are Netgear and D-Link. I've setup the access ports as Untagged and the uplink to the Dell as Tagged. The uplink port on the Dell is set to Trunk (I've tried General too). Setup in this way I can't ping a test workstation on the Dell switch, even though they are both in the same VLAN. Any advice? Thanks in anticipation.

We did some software testing with 32-bit, but then standardised on 64-bit - there seemed no point in changing this filter though?

We do this so that Classic Shell settings are only applied when users logon to Windows 10 - we are only deploying 64bit.

We deploy CS3 in the SCCM Task Sequence.

It's not a good idea to join a domain. You could map a drive to your deployment share and install software, or install from a portable hard drive? Or just deploy your software later via Group Policy, or whatever other method you use?
