It's not my expectation; I've just been asked to investigate hardware purchase schemes. As you say, they used to be fairly common, but I'm struggling to find any. As for my full-time/part-time staff priority remark; what I meant was that, if we have a pool of laptops to choose from, the best ones will go to the full-time staff and, of those, the best of those will go to a head of department, or SLT. What we do find, is that someone who works full-time, drops to say 3 days per week and we then have to find another laptop for the person we employ to cover the other two days. There would be no expectation that the laptop would be shared between them.

Full-time staff do get priority over part-time staff, but it depends what department it is. We have teacher PCs in every classroom, with a standard setup. Staff much prefer this. When we allowed staff to use their own laptop we had a lot more support calls for things not working. An on-site selection of laptops sounds like a good idea, but I fear that they'd be borrowed and held on to.

It all started with the 'Laptops for teachers' scheme back in 2002. Since then, there has been an expectation from staff that they will be supplied with a laptop. I've no problem with that, provided it's used to do work. However, with our budget as it is, it's becoming very difficult to supply laptops for all members of staff - even refurbished ones. Plus, we have a number of roles are filled by part-time staff. So, a full-time member of staff will decide that they only want to work three days per week. The school allows it and then employ somebody for two days per week and we are asked to provide a laptop for them both.

We're trying to move away for providing laptops for teacher and I've been asked about setting up an employee purchase programme where staff can purchase devices and spread the costs a period of time. Does anybody do this and, if so, any recommendations, pitfalls, things to watch out for? We would want to be able to offer a range of devices, from several manufacturers. Many thanks.

I had a webinar with SonicWall last week and, if I remember correctly, you can turn on a kind of 'SSL Lite' option that just inspects the certificate for a site, rather than doing full SSL inspection.

We do a standard installation of Windows using SCCM, including Office 365 ProPlus and a couple of other things. Everything else is controlled, or restricted, using Group Policies and Preferences.

This. Install Windows, software, updates and pretty much everything else in your Task Sequence. Sysprep might make the install process quicker, but it'll never be as stable and trouble free as installing from scratch.

Thanks Dave. I managed to get hold of a VESA through mount but found that the 800 G1 is a bit too heavy to go on the back of a monitor. By the way, I emailed sales last Tuesday about some 800 G1s and displays but never got a reply?

Can anyone recommend a cheap VESA bracket/adapter for mounting an EliteDesk 800 G1 USFF on the back of a monitor? Many thanks.

Maybe you don't need to do this using the latest versions of Office 365 ProPlus? It seems to be working for me without doing this.

I've just tried deploying Office 365 ProPlus as a shared computer license, using SCCM, and it seems to be working. We use Seamless SSO and my test user is automatically signed in when they open Word and, under About Word, it shows as 'Shared Computer Activation'. I've checked the user in the Office 365 Admin portal and they don't have any Office installs showing, or activations on any devices (I gave this about 90 minutes to see if it updated). We use Office 365 A1 Plus licenses for students and faculty.
