Ummm,

 

A little stumped here - trying to set IE11 proxy via group policy and not having much luck. Anyone done this successfully?

you have to use group policy preferences and press f6 on each bit so the underline goes green the old ie maintenance setting don't affect ie10+ in fact you can even edit these policies if the pc has ie10+ installed

For anyone that is confused, here are the steps you will need to follow:

 

Firstly you will need to create a GPP and edit the xml to work for IE11 as shown here (works with 'Internet Explorer 8' too..)

 

Secondly make sure, as sted pointed out, that the underline is green for the bits that you want to change, and red for the bits you want to leave.

Many thanks will give it a try. Just a quick question in GPP when I create a new IE setting it only give me the option of settings for IE 5/6, 7 or 8. IE 11 is installed on the server. Will the mod above work if I add it as IE8 settings?

If you edit the XML of the IE GPP settings in the GPO located in your sysvol/Policies folder then yes, it'll work.

Why not just use a WPAD file and reference it through your DHCP scope?

In Internet Explorer 11, the WinINET team has disabled WinINET's support for

file:// based scripts to promote interoperability across network stacks.

Corporations are advised to instead host their proxy configuration scripts on

a HTTP or HTTPS server. As a temporary workaround, this block can be removed by

setting the following registry key:

 

Key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVe rsion\Internet Settings\

Value: EnableLegacyAutoProxyFeatures

Type: REG_DWORD

Data: 1
