They do such a good job i think someone should let people know. We have not only had all our old kit taken away for free but they have also found us 6 promethian active baords with projectors saving us £11000. They fitted the local cathederal with a IT learning suite and refitted the local charity theatre company with new IT kit in thier offices and booking office. I think these guys are great and if anyone out there is need of anything get in contact with them.

I guess it's just weird that EVERY post you have made relates to IT disposal in some way and in most cases, that company is also mentioned. I'm sure you can understand why alarm bells were ringing... most people who post here usually participate in more then one type of discussion Not the mention the fact that companies who are found to be advertising in this way (i.e. pretending to be someone they are not) are looked down on in a very bad way here, as that is deceit and, in affect, theft. It has happened before.

Sylv3r Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I have had lcws pick up 70 monitors and 40 PC's today. Very reliable company and will deffintly be using them again as their van wasn't big enough so I couldn't get everything on it!

SteveB_NI Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I have been given the task this week of recording serial numbers of over 150+ items of equipment which we are hoping to dispose of soon - this is all well, but all techy jobs at the mo are being directed to myself so I've no idea when to find time! Hard drive wise - I'm planning to remove the hard drives myself from each machine... not too sure what I plan to do with them yet, but may cut down the initial disposal costs. Should have been done years ago (I wasn't here!) before all this legislation really kicked in! Prob would have been left for years more if a new build wasn't on it's way.

If you mean you need them wiped of data beyond chance of recovery, then DBAN (Disk Boot And Nuke) should do the job. Just download an ISO file to make a bootable CD, set up one PC to connect your harddrives to, then just boot up and watch DBAN wipe the harddrive. Might take a while (like, a day at a time) if you're using an older PC. -- David Hicks

We're never going to produce a whole van load on our own - are there any other Berkshire/Hampshire/Oxfordshire-based schools who would be interested in combining forces with me next summer to get a collection together? As for base units - Strip em, flog the metal to the scrapyard up the road, give the electronics to DT for desoldering and reuse in kids projects, save the CPUs, RAM, soundcards and NICs. Anything else gets stored and disposed of through the LEA. Dell PSUs are my fave at the sec..dead caps in those, but good fans, heatsinks, transistors and many good caps etc still left. Saves me a bomb for home electronics hobbies..heh.
