Hi

Just a general query - does anyone know of a 'Panic Button' system that could be linked to the school's Wi-Fi network rather than using some 3rd party system?

Thanks

Thanks for that, I should have explained further. Thinking of a panic button (fob) that can be carried around by student, say a with a medical condition, who may be out of lesson e.g. break, lunch?

Not connected to the wifi but a rape alarm?

Although not WiFi we have these at one our Mental Health units. Press it and everyone comes running nearby, there is PC that monitors it all and you have a small aerial which sorts the signal if I am right. They do other products but I have had personal use, the button with the person stays silent but the rest go off. Saved me a few times in a tough situation.

The only pure WiFi panic button solution that is designed for your application that I am aware of is from Ekahau. Aeroscout and Lynx solution both use supplemental proprietary wireless RFID networks for location services and WiFi for communications between devices. Ekahau has apparently been installed specifically in schools in the US and Canada already.

So where do you run to when the panic goes off?

Needs to be location aware tracking and then do you have suitable coverage for all eventualities, it is one area where a tech solutions whilst available is going to be very cost prohibitive.
