Are you still on Windows XP? If so Why?

Big surprise to me is your praise for Windows 8 - I had a look and hated it!

 

At first so did i, its growing on me! But just becuase i don't like it shouldn't stop us from other staff using it.

Still on XP here because our outsourced ICT provider are useless and they manage all ICT kit.

100% Windows 7 at Main site. 2 of my primarys have plans for upgrading in Easter.

We are still on XP apart from a handful of laptops on W7. Plan is to migrate over summer. As far as I know SIMS will not be supported on XP from the Autumn upgrade (November time?). If anyone knows different please let me know. Everyone here is still happy with XP only gripe is that IE8 is now not working with some sites and causes problems.

 

Spring is the last update that supports it. So needs doing before summer update.

I thought i would add. We have 850 machines all Windows 7. We are to offer staff Windows 8 today, get an idea who is up for it. I am currently testing it and it works well.

Yes, not long until it supported by that time we will be good to go with it. Student machines dont have sims so would be ok.

Some 4000 machines here still with Windows XP on! Got less than 10 machines with Windows 7 running. Biggest issue for us has been our key software has only just been updated to work with 7 and then its only 32bit! One of the other issues is we have no licenses to upgrade either. Pretty much same in the NHS all over.

When i worked for the bank they where replacing XP machines at a rate of 1,000 per week.

We're still on XP with a Server 2003 domain. Why? Well, in short, because of BSF... or at least the lack of it!

 

I got TUPEd to RM in 2009 and the BSF was due to kick off soon after with the school having spent millions on planning and architects, only for Michael Gove to open his gob. So, the BSF got shelved and any upgrades went on a complete back burner! The school have now decided with RM that they will go for the full conversion to CC4 (Hopefully with Windows 8, but looking more and more likely that it will be Windows 7) this summer.

 

Still running Office 2003 too. The staff will be given training opportunities to learn to work with Office 2010 (probably not 2013) in the Spring term, ready for full migration in September.

 

I can't wait. I am sick and tired of the sight of Windows XP and Server 2003.

Gradually rolled out windows 7 over the last few years. Got a few student laptops still on XP but it seems old now.

 

I don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading like some people, but I will offer it and its a far more modern operating system.

I think we have 7 out of 120-130 machines left on XP. 2 are library machines, which I can upgrade at the next holiday, one is a very old laptop and the rest are bursary staff - took forever to get re-installation instructions for some BACS software...so they can be done soon too.

one single machine for us on the laser cutting machine we have (only drivers available for the device need XP and a parallel printer port, it wont work with 7 at all I tried all ways to get it to work) - irony being one year later they changed to USB based cutters and would have given us no issue, but this one machine is going to be locked in that format for foreseeable future.

Majority of our machines are Win7. There are a minor few running XP as the software they require won't run on anything other than XP. Also a small number on Win8

Both my schools are still on XP for class rooms, with admin mostly on Windows 7. Teachers have Win 7 laptops.

 

I've got a couple of Win 8 trials out. We have a lot of old (and I mean OLD) software that simply won't work on Vista + which is being slowly replaced.

 

I plan for both schools to go Win 7 during Easter.

 

I also had licensing issues, that until recently we were primary only, then primary with a bit of secondary. Now we're fully all age EES licensing was needed, as we were fast running out of Office licenses and CALs.

 

Rather than just buy new CALs I took the opportunity to get select licensing in place.

We changed from a complete XP/Server2003 setup to Win7/Server2008 setup last January when our BSF took over and i Tuped to Civica.

I quite like it as a working environment, i Just hope they dont decide to move to windows 8 as i really dont like it

We upgraded to Windows 7 and Virtualised our Servers from a mixed mode Windows 2000 domain last summer.

Now have 21 Windows 2008R2 virtual servers with 600 Windows 7 desktops school wide. A big thanks to ERGO who helped with the infrastructure and migration work without which it wouldn't have been possible.

650 desktops here with maybe 150 running Win 7, the rest on XP Not my choice but the rest of the machines are too old and clunky to handle 7. We are replacing them room at a time when funds allow. In terms of staff laptops, maybe half are now running 7. I much prefer 7 over XP but have struggled with my tests of Windows 8. Think I will skip that and see what 9 looks like. Not that you asked but we have are running a 2008 domain.

 

Also, we are running CMIS as opposed to SIMS so the timetable to switch isn't as pressing

Will bne fully 7 after this summer. Hung on to XP on Curric simply because there was no real need to migrate, so didn't as we didn't want to re-image everything in a really busy summer, plus doing so prior to EES would have been expensive as a one-off. Won't touch 8 until at least after its first SP, and from what I've seen can see no reason to move anyway.

I have about a dozen machines on XP out of 270, mainly because the staff have so much stuff scattered over them since they were in use before I started and trying to arrange a time to migrate the stuff and rebuild the computer is hard to do with census and other returns which are constantly popping up.

 

We did the main migration summer just gone, not planning to upgrade to Windows 8 anytime soon though.

If there is ever one you will be waiting a long time. Microsoft a phasing them out.

 

If we upgrade workstations to 8 people will be used to Windows tablets. Also the interface works good with our touch screens.

Indeed. Windows 9 will be SP1 for windows 8 I'll still wait for SP1...or 2
