Even for the cheapest one that's £355 (£270+£85 for RC gear) plus you still need Lipo's and a charger and I have never been a fan of the flamewheel frame design and it only has a KK2.0 FC. The only plus of that purchase will be that he has test flown it before you get your hands on it

Well finally took the plunge last night and ordered the Hubsan x4 Mini Quadcopter (with crash kit!!)

 

Been following this thread for a long time and made a load of notes, got a birthday and Christmas coming up soon so hopefully this is the start of my journey into FPV!

 

Will keep you posted and no doubt be asking for some advice, especially from JAB1a!

Mine is built just gotta work out how to get the tx to arm the fc and then we should be good to spool up turn and burn baby.

Good man @Paul_L, you won't regret that purchase. The Hubsan is such a good thing to learn on I think as its great in the living room or just as happy in an open field (if you have good eye sight lol). That crash kit looks good, I wish I had one when I was learning, does the crash kit clip between the motor and the prop or does it attach to the arm or motor directly? I ask because most failures on my X4 was because when the X4 lands on its roof it pushes the props and motor shaft through the bottom of the motor casing so you have to replace the motor...but if the kit went between the prop and motor then that could no longer push the shaft out the bottom.

I thought about pledging for that especially as I have a 3d printer so could customise it but I didn't as it's low energy Bluetooth although I do have an ipad mini that would fly it I guess would be good for the kids.

@plexer I wondered why you posted this...then I had a good look at it. Good spot Ben, 'point 5' they have shorten the distance between the prop and the motor...problem fixed I also see its got another 70meter range! excellent if you converted it to FPV...but I could barely see my X4 at about 30meters range let alone 100meters and I like the option to have anti-flip in extreme mode

 

Good luck with your little Quad, what flight controller are you going to use and motors? looks a very sturdy designed frame.

 

@pcstru Again you Star, thank you very much for the offer, I will keep you in mind if I get the urge at the moment all (what little I have lately) my time is going on the big Quad, I'm having a rejig and attempting to add a brushless gimbal as a clip on option for when I'm not doing close proximity flying which is keeping me busy.

hmm there is a huge choice....I would try down the line of the WLToys v959 or some of the smaller Walkera quads but then you will need to purchase a supporting remote....or a kk2.0 is 50.5mm x 50.5mm x 12mm with some small 5-9amp ESC's...not sure on the motors

That version has the antennae attached to the transmitter body I think which means the module is not removeable.

 

I got the flysky version from banggood for £53 and it was delivered in 3 days with free shipping.

 

You'll pay a hefty delivery charge from Hobbyking on that radio.

As Ben says, its the early model where you have to cut a wire to attach another module, the later version has the antenna attached to the module and a newer FW I think....but its the best cheap remote out there, you can flash open source FW to it which give it the features that a £300 remote has. Highly recommended

Good stuff - thought it was going to flip on take off ? What controller you using on it?

 

Mine is laid up at the moment - just not had time to fly it and the weather hasn't been too kind either. It's all great fun though!

This is the controller MultiWii PRO 2.0 Flight Controller w/ GPS Option - Flight Controllers + $9 shipping it was although got done for VAT and collection fee when it landed as the declared value of $25 was about 3 pence over the £15 allowance, lol.
