The Hubsan x4 is tiny so it would only really be able to carry something rather small.

There are many different FPV setups for the Hubsan, you want to check out some of the Badland FPV Hubsan video's, the man is a wiz around the house under tables and over doors etc... amaing...

It also looks as aerodynamic as a loaf of bread. This will be so effected by air currents that it would not be stable and lifting all that weight I doubt there is any power left for performance so again will be killed by a light breeze, also seeing that flat surface I bet some cheeky seagull takes a bump in the middle of the solar panel from 100ft up and cuts its power output in half.

This is has much use (in this form) as that Sushi restraint in London using an AR drone with a tray stuck to the top of it to serve food, well maybe that's a bit harsh, at least this can't be controlled by an ipad user so people should be safe, the solar panelled Quadcopter is a good proof of concept

I assumed it was a joke - there is no way that a solar panel of that size can generate the power needed for a quad. A typical quad might be flying for 10 mins on a 5000mAh battery @ 11.1V. That's 30amps, around 300 watts. You would be lucky to get 60 watts out of a 36 cell panel on a sunny day with the cells aligned perfectly.

Bit of a big ask this one but understand if you can't. I wanted to create an Amazon wishlist based on your ebay list of parts in the first post (no cash at the moment), problem is that Amazon comes up with a list of parts with similar names but the pictures can look different, so I am not sure which parts to add to my wishlist. That's a tough question, Yes they are ok but it all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.

 

A Parrot AR drone 2.0 compared to the build in this post are a world apart. (not the best analogy) The difference between a Sony Cybershot camera compared to a 'Big Red', both take great film but ones it full blown and the other is merely dipping its toe. The difference between a Pot Noodle Bad boy and a phaal curry, both hot but one means business.

 

If your gonna buy a RTF quadcopter then the DJI Phantom would be 10x better than a AR Drone. As I said above, it all depends on what you want from it and what its purpose is.

That's about it for now until the next spending spree, need escs, battery, charger, tx/rx and imu board for the arduino

Getting braver, my last flight I got up to around 65m high before I bottled it. Wanted to go higher but started to look very small in the sky.

 

I've got 1000kv motors on mine, and get around 6 - 7 minutes of flight time with it using a 3S 2200 LiPo. Currently trying to sort out a Loiter problem with it; whenever I put in Loiter mode it just goes off in all sorts of directions, might be a compass issue. I'm now considering the FPV gear, but doing my research on that kit first.

Nice choice, so are you going to be running 8" props instead of 9" due to the faster RPM? I'm now toying with the idea of going onto 4cell lipo's (14.8v) for some extra kick and power

That is amazing, some talks on TED about quadcopters adapting to external forces are wicked but they all rely on a room full of camera's for tracking and transitions. A great swam video is the one where they get lots of quadcopters with lights on them and make the Star Trek sybol in the sky, all done on GPS..amazing

That's a great flight video Pete, some fast and brave moves for LOS flight. I see your using the Ali motor mounts, that's a great upgrade for the X525frame, before these were available I ended up just mounting the motors straight to the arms and it makes such a difference. Keep the video's coming

Looking at some 8 x 4.5 props but only running 3 cells as that's all the motors are rated for.

That's excellent, it should sound and react like its on rails, do you have a link to your motors you can share?

 

As for RC Tx's, I would suggest the Turnigy 9x, you can flash opensource firmware to it so it then has features that Tx's that cost hundereds have. I was looking at one of the 9x's but then I discovered I can use my Spektrum DX6i with other TX modules like EzUHF etc by using the training port...sweet!

I'm looking into FPV now, but I just stumbling at the price of a decent set of FatSharks! Can't believe they cost so much. Frustrating.
