mats Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 What pages do you lot use to check if your filters are working? Eg - you've found a proxy site and want to know if it gets around the schools filtering, you're not going to try playb0y.com in school. Are there any sites which are on block lists (and are there to test filtering) but are innocuous and are there for people to test their filtering? Ta, Ma
cpjitservices Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 any proxy site is filtered here, just about every one that turns up a search result on Google, we also block spam.com on our filter... so if we go to spam.com and it shows our filter page we know we've bypassed our filtering.
kaphc Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 We've used Online Casino & Online Poker Room - 888.com in the past, it's a gambling site so should be blocked, but wouldn't bring up anything offensive if the filtering wasn't working.
sparkeh Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Online Casino & Online Poker Room - 888.com
glennda Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Have spies in the camp with the kids who report back on what gets through - which when I was at my last place with the smoothie wasn't a lot 1
glennda Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 we just google the word sex... the thing is with that is even the most rubbish of filter should pick it up. It's the higher level stuff like proxy's with completely random url's which tend to trouble the filters. @tom_newton or any of the other smoothie guys must have some good techniques.
Oaktech Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 It just proves whether the filter is working or not, not how well! If there is some concern, we pick something we know is in the block list, for example yayoye.ru which is a flash games site.
twin--turbo Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 It just proves whether the filter is working or not, not how well! Indeed, The OP did not ask about how good it is..
glennda Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Indeed, The OP did not ask about how good it is.. Ah thats true my bad - but a good test of if its any good is then testing things like sussex - or another one that our old lea's filter couldn't understand was milford
twin--turbo Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Cumbria was the first one our original squid box squashed with it's first day in use... Still it did a grand job of increasing the performance of our ISDN2!!! Rob
mats Posted November 16, 2012 Author Posted November 16, 2012 Triple eight dot com, of course. Thanks everybody!
john Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 @tom_newton or any of the other smoothie guys must have some good techniques. Give it to us to break, sorry test, between me and our kids we can test any filter to the max I'm convinced of that by the rate that our kids sap Internet! Simple stat we have 100Mb Internet yet a school with 2.5x as many kids manages on 10Mb yet we couldn't..... MyMaths and Manga High have a lot to answer for hahaha As for us checking, we have our little spys in campus who get rewarded with housepoints for "helping the ICT Team" which is good and if they are excellent I can nominate them in one of the Student of the Month category's Common search terms are usually blocked so does help having a PFY and not being too old myself to think around the kids, also monitoring them on a cover lesson "researching" and spotting spelling trends and search trends does help to put 2+2 together
