How do you all use iPads in a work/support capacity? What essential apps do you use? The only three areas I use it for at the moment are transferring PDF documentation via Dropbox to iBooks, 2X for RDP capabilities and AirDisplay for a second/third monitor.

I'm curious if anyone uses them in any other ways?

I use mine extensively for Calendar, e-mails, note making, accessing my helpdesk and web browising. The apps I have installed which I also use for school purposes are:

Twitter

Pulse News

Keynote

Dropbox

Evernote

iTap RDP

Helpdesk and Emails on the move, primarily, and access to websites when I need to look up something quickly as I'm walking round school.

Just mobile access to web/email/calendar, meeting documents which I PDF rather than print. I find the poor cursor control a huge problem in using it to take any notes.

What's your opinion on AirDisplay - the reviews seem decidedly mixed.

IMO, it works a treat. It's recently updated to support Areo in windows 7 and manages portrait or landscape views use really well. You can never have enough desktop real estate and it's a cheap option compared to a second monitor! :)

Not if you don't already have one lying about unused.

I was not suggesting getting an iPad purely to use as a second display. Chances are, if your at your PC, you won't be actively using your iPad so using it as a extension to your monitor makes sense. If you move away from your desk, close the app and take your iPad with you and use it as normal. Fire it back up when your back at your desk and it's a monitor again.

I just wish that RM would produce an app for the CC4 Management Console, that would really make worthwhile use of a tablet in our dept.

Not as seamless but why not RDP onto your PC?

Can anyone recommend a decent (free) iPad app? ... saves me having to download and try them all!

I don't have a iPad but one of the guys further up mentioned using the 2X connection client - I also know of someone who uses it on their Nexus 7.

Either way...I have just recieved word from home that my Surface has arrived :) (native RDP)
