simonw Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Hi All, I'm Simon (almost obvious) and I've been on the forum since BETT this year. I split my working week between two schools and have been rescued by the forums a few times in the last two years, so I would like to say 'Thank you' for all your help so far. I hope that I can help others in the future. Cheers.
Arreks Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I never introduced myself so I'm a bit late to the party. Hi, I'm Arreks, and I'm an alco- EduGeek user. I don't really remember how I came across EG, it was probably some problem that had an easy fix that I couldn't work out.. it's hard to believe a time without EG now. But now I'm here and I bring joy with every post!
blake95 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 (edited) Hi everyone, my name's Josh, i am an IT technician apprentice in Walsall, now.. the reason i have decided to create an account on here is for advice from professionals. I am really interested in the IT Career and i am currently studying towards some decent qualifications in my apprenticeship, i really want to make it in this industry and i will do everything in my power to do so, but i need to ask, could any of you professionals give me any advice to become an excellent IT technician? I know a fair bit about computers but there is so much more to learn and i love my apprenticeship too, i am 100% sure this is what i want to do but this industry is extremely competitive. Thanks. elsiegee40 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Hi Josh Welcome to edugeek. I suggest you start a separate thread to ask your question as this one is really only for introductions and things otherwise get lost in it.
witch Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Blimey, I look away for a minute and you all flood in! Welcome to all new edugeeks. May the site save you as many times as it has me
AlViDA Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Hi everyone, I'm an ICT Technician for a small SEN school in Leicester. Started recently but already struggling lol. Hope I can start to contribute to edugeeks in the near future though AlViDA
Garacesh Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 We all struggled at first - and I'm sure an SEN school has its own share of issues. Welcome!
johnniebod Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Hello Everyone, My name is John and I am an IT technician at Northern Highlands Regional High School. This is my first job directly in IT. I worked in the cellular industry for around 15 years with a focus on hardware and data. With the cellular market becoming inundated, I decided to return to school and formalize my IT training. I graduated with an AAS in IT/Network Administration in 2013 and my job hunt lead me here to Highlands. My co-worker referred me edugeek and from my short time here, I'm glad he did.
pcstru Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Welcome. When you said Highlands - I got all nostalgic for Scotland.
johnniebod Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Although my grandparents immigrated from Scotland, here it is just the highlands of northern New Jersey.
LiamHaith Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Hey everyone, I'm Liam (You'd never have guessed by my username, right?). I'm 21 and from sunny Yorkshire... I recently started an official job within IT (Been tinkering with computers basically my entire life) and stumbled across this page when I was perusing the internet during my lunch. Since then I lurked for a while, then eventually made an account. I work in a commercial laundry as an Accounting Assistant and IT Technician. I'm glad I stumbled upon this forum as you've given me many a restrained giggle during my lunch and quiet moments in the office.

LiamHaith Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Honestly, as I said, this is my first real job within the IT field. So I spend a fair amount of time just reading up on general server problems and queries on the varying OS' we use here in order to give me a broader knowledge since prior to starting this job I had little to no experience with server related topics, let alone switchboards and the likes.
