Outsourcing killed my career in mainframe programming and then Covid killed my small business support company so at the age of 57 I decided IT manager in a school might offer a more rewarding experience than trying to retrain again and I wasn't wrong! 3

Based near Southampton UK. Didn't really know what to expect but it has turned out to be one of the best jobs of my life! Look forward to trying to help if I can. 1 2

I started in programming - some time ago when dinosaurs where wandering past the windows rather than Windows running the computers - including some mainframe stuff I ended up here a bit differently after that (used to teach IT - but I don;t tell people on here in case they make fun of me!!!) Lots of helpful people on here - ask anything!

I'm based in one of the secondary schools and cover the 3 primary schools, while there are other network managers/technicians in the other 2 secondary schools. I started as an apprentice for 18 months and now am full employed by the Trust, a team of two including myself covers 300 domain machines and a couple hundred chromebooks across our main site and the 3 primary schools. Windows92 Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 Hello! Senior (and sole) IT Technician working at a Trust of primary schools. It's often strange to think I'm the Senior Tech, as there's no one currently that I'm senior to - change and expansion could be on the horizon, which will hopefully bring new possibilities. Started as one of two Techs as part of a 4 person team... Fast forward a few years and I'm now a Senior Tech but also the only tech and work alongside the Infrastructure Manager; the team reduced but the workload stayed - too efficient for my own good? Anyways!... I carry on with optimism. 2

I am a time served Fitter and Turner by trade. When that was a recognized trade. I work as a pipeline isolations specialist. Layman's terms we put big 'wine bungs' in a pipe and seal it.
