Hi guys,

Our AV Technician here is always asking for free to use green screen animations from YouTube to use in student videos or for events. I have been using a Chrome add-on to download the files for him until recently when they changed their terms, meaning these add-ons were removed (copyright laws, bla bla).

I have since found an alternative on Firefox, but would like to know if there is a trusted and reliable application that any of you may know of that I could install this on his local machine. (Unfortunately due to Chrome and Firefox ignoring Impero's blacklist, installing the browser isn't an option).

And no, for some reason these clips don't include a download link in the description!

Thanks,

J

Realplayer basic has a free video downloader, that allows you to download from YouTube (It downloads it in .flv, but you can then convert this using the Real Converter software it installs). The plugin only works in 32bit Internet Explorer mind.

If want Impero to block other browsers on the entire network under group properties make sure that untick the box that says Filter Only Internet Explorer.

Downloading Youtube videos without using a Youtube product is against their t&c's

Ben

So many people don't seem to realise this. I have teachers coming in saying they want to download videos from YouTube and when I put them right, they say 'my previous school did it so it must be okay' - like that makes any difference!

Teacher's don't ask for that here, only the AV Tech, but these are literally free to use clips as per the video description. I fully understand the legality of an application like this if used incorrectly (like most would).

Even if a clip says you're free to use it howeveryou like once it's uploaded to youtube it's covered by the t&c's which say you can't download it allthough this point has been argued about before as copyright law allows schools to use just about anything under certain crircumstances.

That's true, I suppose, perhaps in the future I'll bug the user to provide a link.

Cheers everyone.
