Google's reCAPTCHA issues
carnforthhigh replied to PurpleTentacle's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Yes, the traffic was all going through one external IP - this has been divided up now. The issue only started when we deployed ChromeOS Flex devices out for student use - the timing of this could be a coincidence with the Chrome setting change with v134. -

Google's reCAPTCHA issues
carnforthhigh replied to PurpleTentacle's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We get reCAPTCHA'd constantly when signing into Google services - ChromeOS sign-in, Chrome Browser profile sign-in or signing in to individual websites using Google accounts. It subsided over the Summer break. We are using a Sophos XGS - if anyone has any ideas or even better any resolutions I'm all ears. The reCAPTCHAs we get are sometimes unreadable so as you can imagine, the students are going through multiple every sign in. -

We found these guides handy for customisation too. https://msfreaks.wordpress.com/2013/12/29/step-by-step-customizing-rd-web-access-2012-r2/ https://msfreaks.wordpress.com/2014/01/02/step-by-step-customizing-rd-web-access-2012-r2-part-2/ https://msfreaks.wordpress.com/2014/01/30/step-by-step-customizing-rd-web-access-2012-r2-part-3/

I thought that might be the case.

The local primary school we support has these exact machines. We haven't had any trouble them booting to WDS. The only issue we had was the boot.wim had to have drivers added into it. Don't know if this helps.

Taskbar Colour Change through GPO
carnforthhigh replied to samwells1234's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
You can change the colour of the Windows 7 taskbar using group policy. Amdinistrative Templates - Windows Components - Desktop Window Manager - Window Frame Colouring. We have a different colour for staff and students, works a treat. -

We have the same issue here, Students and staff get a ? on the dock and a message saying access denied when clicking on it. We haven't got round to having a look at the issue yet as only a handful of our students and staff use them, but I read somewhere that it may have something to do with special ntfs permissions like traverse folder. We have our file server setup with traverse folder permissions. I may be wrong but our issue seems to point towards the ntfs permissions. We have a similar issue to this post Why can't I access a folder even though I have permissions? - MacRumors Forums

We have had it through on the portal. It is listed as "Connect2Education Lightspeed Filtering - Confirmation of Switch Over". It gives you a link which takes you to a page with a simple form to fill in. We got ours on 25th Feb.

Just a quick post to see what others have done regarding the windows firewall and uac. The windows firewall has been turned off here since the days of XP and has never been changed. Do others have the firewall and uac turned on in Windows 7/8? If so how have you set it up or is it considered a hindrance on a network with other methods of protection? We were just wondering whether it would be worth turning it on if set up correctly as not to annoy the users. Regards
