Considering Upgrading from ActivStudio PE3 to ActivInspire

Hi All,

We are considering upgrading from ActivStudio PE3 to ActivInspire this summer. Are there any gotchas that we should watch out for?

Are there any issues with licencing/registration and multiple users per PC? as per standard school usage.

Any issues with rollout?, we would probably use our SCCM server for this.

What about the learning curve?, how did your users adapt?.

Any other advice that may ease the process would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

 

I can;t speak for schools, but to my knowledge, Inspire should be able to rolled out fine accross your network - when you run it on a machine, the installer asks if you want a "newtork install" which would then give you all of the relevent .MSI files for the software / resources / drivers etc etc that you can then deploy in the same way you do with any other.

 

There are some quite big changes in terms of "look and feel" for your users, so it might be worth advising the teachers to take a look on Promethean Planet - I believe there are a few free "tutorials" on there that they may find useful.

 

In terms of license, if you have Studio, you can upgrade that copy to Pro version of Inspire for free - so if you have say 10 machines with Studio on, you can update to Inspire Pro for free onb all of those computers, + 10 "preperation" machines.

 

As I say though, can't really speak for anyone else, but most users I have spoken to do seem get used to it quite quickly!

I know this is a very old post now but in regard to the free upgrade of ActivStudio to ActivInspire, is this still the case or was it a time limited offer?

 

We have a number of boards which will cease to work when we upgrade the machines the software runs on to Windows 10.

You can download the student version of ActivInspire for free at https://support.Prometheanworld.com and as long as you have a Promethean Whiteboard or Promethean ActivPanel you should be able to upgrade to the Professional version for free. You may need to use the hardware serial number to generate an unlock code but all details can be found on the above support site.
