Getting scratches out of cars?

Only had the car for a couple of months and managed to do something stupid >:-0

 

Was cleaning it and wiped some bird poo of the bonnet, took a few wipes to get it off, then I realised that I'd scrapped the grit in the poo backwards and forwards leaving lovely scratches with it.

 

The scratches aren't deep and look surface level but being a black car it looks terrible.

 

Anyone got any advice about the best way to treat the scratches?

Some very fine polishing paste or tooth paste.

Get some T-Cut from Halfords....

 

Spend a bit of time cutting the scratches out and it'll be as good as new!

machine polisher either yourself i think you can rent them or a dewcent valeting firm should have one

Other thing to look into is a Chips Away type company, they sometimes are very reasonable for small work and you don't have to get your hand dirty

That's the idea isn't it. The wax polish will smooth out any fine lines left by the T-Cut.

Yes, its needs to be abrasive, but T-Cut is too abrasive, its the Symantec of car care products

Yeah, T-Cut is much too harsh for that - it's great for flat colours (think red Vauxhalls that go pink!), the metallic variant is much gentler as it's not the paint that's often scratched, but the clear lacquer which coats it, and you don't want to cut through that.

Yes ordinary toothpaste one of the most gentle abrasive cleaners you can get allthough it may not be quite enough so a scratch removal tube of paste is next, do not use full on T-Cut allthough they do make some less ahrsh compounds under the T-Cut brand.

 

G3 is a good one to use.

 

You will have only just scratched the top coat of laquer.
