Oldest PC (still in daily use) at your school

This is a beauty, the Acer Travel Mate T212 No built in wifi or ethernet 800x600 display 182MB RAM and 800Mhz Celeron CPU with 6GB HDD and a NiMh. I have older machines but I want to see PCs that are still in use!

 

It is used for taking the minutes at meetings and is left on 24/7 using it's single usb 1.1 port with a 64MB usb drive.

 

Age = Unknown (it was here before me!) guess at 12 years

Nothing special here the oldest machines are 6 years.

Oldest machine we have here any more is a Pentium 4 D 2.8ghz socket 775, so nothing spectacular sadly.

 

I guess i could include the laptop i use specifically for configuring switches (one of few left with a serial port) which is some RM pentium 4 thing again, fair bit older than the Ds but even so, still nothing special really.

I think we have some of the acers here on site ourselves they power up, but are not used really, recycled some old legacy stuff the other week though, included a tower server that required 2 of us to lift and carry it due to it being made of what felt like Iron rather than Steel, was over 10 years old I think that server.

I'm surprised it's running XP...... I know XP needs low specs but it must be painful. The oldest machine we have is a Pentium 4 256 DDR 40GB hard Drive - runs Linux and used as a print server.

Servers - Dell Poweredge 2500 - dual P3 with 2.5GB of SDRAM. Runs XP, used daily.

 

Workstations - probably a couple of Dell Latitudes with early Celeron-M CPUs and 1GB of RAM, or a few Athlon XP powered desktops with 1GB of RAM. Nothing too terrible in the grand scheme - they work okay and should be replaced this year.

Got an old Mercury laptop, unsure of age but came back recently in unused condition. As for other kit, oldest will soon be used for GCSE computing starting in May

We've recently decommissioned a late 90s HP Pentium 3 server. Still have a few Viglen Dossier NS' in use and a BBC B which the science dept use with some radar type device which tells you how far away something is. We certainly like to get our moneys worth!!

Probably a Compaq D510 CMT (P4 2ghz, 512mb RAM), although I shall be replacing it over the easter break. I guess it's from around 2003/4..

Oldest machine we have is 5 years (not by choice!)

 

 

We stick to a 4 year policy on desktops normally.

We have a lab with (now 13) working 700mhz 64mb ram machines One dies every now and then and of course isn't replaceable
