It's extremely lightweight compared to Winamp or (bleurgh) iTunes, and far more customisable than either. It does most standard stuff like media library/playlists and CD ripping out of the box, but there's also a massive plugin library for other features like iPod control. If you're a remotely technical windows user, I can't understand why you'd use any other player.

Any tracks I listen to on my iPod I deem 'awesome' can be given 5 stars and automatically get added to my 5 star playlist. Yes the app itself it's a bit of a resource hog, but it's works nicely and does all the things I want it to. I have Spotify free too (Includes adds in the app + radio adds between streamed music) and it offered to import all my standard playlist's form iTunes. For whatever reason though, it failed to import 90% of the tracks in the playlists. Also, even though I've spent many an evening polishing up my tags on my local music library so I know they are 100% correct, it still seems to want to relabel tracks incorrectly! It's OK, but not great.

I like the plugins and modular nature of it, but it's a bit of big beastie compared to the old days. The iPod plugins for it make iTunes totally unnecessary unless restoring a damaged unit, and I like the gapless playback flexibility etc etc.
rich_tech Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I use grooveshark for now and foobar at home where my music collection is, did use spotify free up until they changed how many times you could play a song. (Yep I am tight and wont pay subs ! )
teejay Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I use Deezer, but that's because I use it through my phone and is free with my Orange contract. Find it much better than Spotify on my phone, offline music caches better and can be stored on SD card, there isn't so many missing artists. Only downside is the Orange deal doesn't let you use the PC app, but I have my phone on a little docking station anyway and find it more convenient.
