Sirbendy Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 VW Playtime Lets see how these Snow monster tyres really work I had some studdable winter/snow tyres fitted to the Astra in November...fair play to them, icy roads have been un-noticeable, as has the ice/compacted/frozen snow so far. Running them without studs - didn't get them with it, don't quite see the point really. I also have the autosocks in the boot (which worked well in the last snow we had when I had "normal" tyres on that were struggling - 3 standing hill starts on a ruddy steep hill while all around were losing it..) Just glad the missus and little person are at home tomorrow - I feel considerably less bothered if I know they're in the warm and not stuck in the car with me. It's not that I doubt my own capabilities...I don't. I've done skidpan courses, and taken the car out after "do not drive" has been issued, in deep snow when you can't tell hedge from road without issue for fun. It's all the other people on the road I doubt...hurtling past at 60/70 , when there's no tarmac visible.

I don't have the studs in mine, they can be, BUT I was fairly sure that was illegal in the UK on the public road to have studded tyres, I know in some parts of europe its a legal requirement but that is why they came un-studded in the UK

It's dangerous, not just for you but other road users. - No point having your lights on if they are covered in snow. - you do not need to drive so slowly when the roads are clear of ice and snow. You are driving dangerously. Yes drive cautiously but 25mph on a 70mph road is ridiculous.

But, it topped up the grass/buildings/cold things. Ability to walk without slipping + SNOOOOOOOW = Happy X-13.
synaesthesia Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Just over an inch here - very fine snow that makes poor snowballs Took a while to clear the car, found under the inch on the windscreen there was a thick layer of pure ice so a little while longer to defrost it. Then the realisation that my shoes and socks were then sopping wet - run back into the house for a change into the scruffiest yet grippiest footwear I can find. No, it doesn't mean I'm running around school in slipper socks

Lincolnshire drivers are idiots and will still be driving two foot from my back bumper Side roads are icy and every road into my town of work is downhill, so all traffic gets funnelled down one road, and it takes an hour and a half to get from edge of town into school (should be 5 minutes) There's a switch in the wiring cab by my desk that's got a newly whining fan, that gave me a headache all day yesterday, and has 48 things plugged in so can't be fixed till next week I'm only remoting into servers today anyway to play with SAN/SCVMM/Hyper-V ...I'm working from home god bless LogMeIn!

I have heated front on the Zetec. I can scrap my car and then leave the front till last. We had about 2 inches in Hillingdon, not enough to cause the school to shut though.
