is coming through our little town. I got to hold the Commonwealth Games GPS thingy when that came to town. I wonder if they'll let me near the torch?

It is coming very near to one of my schools, too - I don't know if we'll be allowed to see it though

It's going all round us, but not through. Over about 5 days, it does a loop round Kent and we'll have to drive about 5 miles to see it.

 

The Commonwealth Games torch came past the end of our road, as did the Tour de France (when one stage was here a few years ago, so I guess I can't be too disappointed!

It goes right past our gates, all around the school grounds.... on a Sunday.

We have it going fairly close to us. We are even being let out to see it in Tatton park. Not only that they are even buying all the staff & student a t-shirt with Knutsford Academy - Home on it.

To be fair, some appear to be auctioning them for a good cause - BBC News - Olympic relay torches put up for auction by bearers. I didn't realize that each bearer got to keep their particular torch though.

 

Just read a little more of the BBC News item, "Torchbearers were told in March that they will have to pay £199 if they want to keep the torch as a souvenir of their special day."

Why not? If a torch bearer has paid the £195 for their torch, it's their property and they can do what they like with it. If someone is stupid enough to pay thousands for one, good luck to them. I don't understand the faux outrage that's coming from the press about this.

It's going right past my school... School's starting at 0745 that day because of road closures etc.

 

All the school's going down to the road to watch it pass...

We have the Olympic torch etc having a brief 40 minute stop over at our school on 5 July.

The whole of Taunton town centre was closed today from 10am until the Torch arrives at 6pm tonight. Mind you, there is a nice atmosphere in town with loud music, sports games etc. Just glad I'm parked on the outside of town and walked in today so no worries about battling out of town later!

 

As for the selling of torches, I'd sell mine on Ebay if I knew I'd get that much. We're in tough times at the moment and 10k+ would be a huge help! I supose it depends how sentimental you are about keeping things like that.

Other half is a torch bearer, she is looking forward to it, not sure what we are going to do with it though as the burner part is removed before you get to keep it.

I think it isn't on selling the torch before you've even done the run. Just seems a bit distasteful. But considering that a lot of these people were chosen for their charity work you can't blame for selling it. A picture or video will be just as sentimental and the money can either help them out (most people who do a lot for charity end up giving most to the charity so having a bit of a donation for them is nice) or be passed on to their charities. I'm surprised the Organisers didn't think of it.

 

That tackle was fairly impressive work, though I'm surprised he got so close considering he ran up along the convoy and passed one of them.

There's others on there for 50k I reported the first one to ebay and it appears to have been removed allready.

It's photo's like this that infuriate me. Yes let people who have helped the community carry the torch, but non british celebrities shouldn't be allowed.
