Overclockers have their praises sung by two of my colleagues who bought systems from them. Personally I'd build my own, generally cheaper and if your smart you can source some great components cheaply (ebay/AVForums - got two 80gb Intel X25-M SSD drives for £90 each and they have been brilliant) Your comment about PCSpecialist is slightly worrying as I have just spent £1500 on a new machine. Im confident that the parts they are using for my machine aren't going to be "junk unbranded stuff". I've got a feeling that if you order a cheaper £350-£500 PC from them then they may use cheaper parts to keep the cost down.

Rawns Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 What's your budget mate? What will it be used for? Games? Office work? Different companies do different deals for different uses. Gaming gaming gaming!!!! My rig is over 6 years old now and is getting a bit sluggish for todays games. The idea is to get a good rig that again will be future proof for another 5 years or so. I don';t have a budget really, but as most places do the standard 36 month finance, I won't notice/have issues with £20 or so quid a month going towards it.

2097 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 my alienware laptop was a bit of a dog before i upgraded it Mind you , it was the m15x laptop with the old school i7. ( £1200 after a ton of discounts i applied) The alienware m15x default graphics card was a pig and i had it replaced under warrenty which made it worse , so decided to buy a better one ! at a cost of £400 off of ebay ! , think it was a 460m or somthing.. mind you it was just released . Also replaced the processor with the i7 extreme edition 920xm replaced the HDD with a SSD , and took out the DVD and put in another HDD caddy also upgraded the ram to 8gb After all that !! it felt ok but not great ! I still prefer my core 2 quad core extreme system at home , 8gb ddr2 2x 1tb HDD's , GTX 260 . All home made and still runs great after many years . Build your self , you know what your getting ! with a large budget you can get some great stuff !

How is that GTX 580 serving you? I've just ordered one in my new machine. I've got a 24inch monitor so I will be running games like BF3 and Witcher 2 at a high resolution so i'm hoping for some excellent frame rates.

I've got a EVGA SC 580GTX on BF3 on Ultra I'm getting about 45-55FPS! it does look sweet!

Apart from the noise it creates (I previously had a silent 8800GTS) it's great. BF3 was set to ultra or whatever the highest was and I noticed no slowdown. Don't know official FPS but lets face it, as long as it doesn't stutter would you notice the diff between 40 and 45fps? I've also had Dead Island and GTA4 at full res, and GTA4 with the ENB graphical addons and still at no slowdown (I think GTA4 also had full AA on) I thank ZeroHour for his recommendation of it

protocol Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Used Overclockers for my computer and home and don't have any complaints about their service. Their postage prices aren't cheap, but if you become a regular on their forum you qualify for free postage. I've also used Scan and Novatech without issues too.
