Rawns Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I'm going to get myself a new PC very soon I think. I'd like to get a base unit pre-built and it will have to be under finance. My last PC was from cyperpowersystems.co.uk and I was very impressed with them, but I always like to have options. Any recommendations?

MK-2 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Despite a few little niggles, OverClockers have prebuilt systems aimed at gaming, and I think finance is on offer there too. They also do pre overclocked mobo/mem/cpu and you can buy the rest yourself if you choose 1

tech_guy Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I purchased a Dell Studio i7 XPS and then stuffed 16GB of Ballistix RAM, a Crucial M4 SSD, and an AMD Radeon HD 6950 in it. Works okay for gaming and photoshop which is all it's used for. 1
JoeBloggs Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 What's your budget mate? What will it be used for? Games? Office work? Different companies do different deals for different uses. 1

apeo Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 pcspecialist.co.uk scan.co.uk (under the 3xs systems) Dell's XPS systems are good to Personally i wouldnt get anything from scan, dont have good experience with them. Out of a batch of 12 PC, 1 wasnt working at all, 2 had missing elements and 1 had to have a part replaced. 1
tech_guy Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 How much did that come to if you don't mind me asking? XPS: 749 BALLISTIX: 80 CRUCIAL M4: 350 AMD RADEON HD 6950: 220 Used the redundant bits out of the XPS to build a little media centre PC.

HaleStorm Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 My network manager has just bought a gaming PC from novatech and says its very good indeed, but i dont know if they do personal finance, might be cheaper in the long run to get a bank loan and pay cash in some cases though 1

Guest Guest Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Depends on your expectations, besides he could be running iTunes in the background leveling it out with a budget desktop First we had single core PCs and everyone laughed when dual core came out. Then we realised the second core could be the "Norton core". Then quad core came out and we realised we could have an "itunes core (or 2)" aswell...
browolf Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I make my pcs from parts from Overclockers UK they do pre-built ones too. 1
tech_guy Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 I take it the SSD is something like 256GB for that price? Yup, it's this one and ouch it's gone down in price a bit

You have the iTunes core, the Quicktime Core, the Safari Core and the random network services cruft core. That leaves only the leftovers of a quad core CPU to run everything else and suddenly a Mac starts looking acceptable if only to manage your music collection

Also notice there are no negative reviews of anything on their site? This company has a stinking reputation! 1
tonyd Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 A couple of thoughts, although I've no experience with Scan pre-build systems, I see that they do do finance on components as well, plus it is worth checking out their today only offers too. Also, have a look at the Dell Factory Outlet if you are convinced pre-built is the way you want to go, there can be some bargains there... 1

Tech1 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 +1 here for PCSPECIALIST - Custom PCs, Custom Computers, Custom PC, Desktop PC, Custom Built Computers, Gaming PC Just last night I ordered a Custom PC from them on Finance. I just used there Custom PC builder, picked the parts I wanted and spent 5 minutes going through the finance stuff and it was done. Should be here next week. Core i7 2700k, 8Gb of ram, 3gb gtx580, coolermaster haf-x case. It wasn't cheap but it will last me a few years. 1
JoeBloggs Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Oh yeah Overclockers do Finance, buy now pay next year. So you could get the finance, send £100 to a saving account each month, then a year later pay £1200 off. For example... 1
MK-2 Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Be wary of OCUk, while the pricing can be good on some things, it can also be way out. Also notice there are no negative reviews of anything on their site? This company has a stinking reputation! To be fair, I can't base anything on customer reviews, way too subjective. For example the GFX card I got had one review saying "absolutely silent, I had to open my case just to see if the fans were working". Reality being its not silent, I don't have to open the case to know the fans are working. If I'd have believed that review I'd have bought it based only on that. OcUK prices are generally within £2/3 of being cheapest. But again if you want something, you shop around, so you will invariably find somewhere cheaper. Problem is price isn't always the only factor. I've had to return stuff to OcUK and not had a prob, but on the other hand I've had returns to other companies drag on for ages. Worth paying £3 extra on a product for the extra service? I know people will always have good/bad things to say about each company. I'll put my tick for OcUK as I've not had a problem with them in the times I've used them (apart from an overclocking issue which is now sorted) 1
Guest Guest Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Barclays are doing 22 months interest free on their credit cards if thats any use to people.
Butters Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Had a PC from PC Specialist and the components were junk non branded stuff, personally I'd steer clear. Overclockers have their praises sung by two of my colleagues who bought systems from them. Personally I'd build my own, generally cheaper and if your smart you can source some great components cheaply (ebay/AVForums - got two 80gb Intel X25-M SSD drives for £90 each and they have been brilliant) 1
