Settled it down to its new location, opened the front panel of which swings out on a hinge and dived for cover as a huge, dust covered queen bumble bee came buzzing out clearly not amused! Thankfully no sign of the rest of her clan though. Any other welcome or not so welcome finds?

Although I did once find a pair of pliers inside a PC! The previous engineer had repaired the PC and left his pliers inside the case... I'm just thankful he's an engineer and not a surgeon lol.
apeo Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 This is really unusual but I once came to diagnose a problem with a PC and found that it was due to a long hair trapped between the RAM and the slot.

Recently I pulled a green sandwich (nice!) from a PC - I think it had been there a long time. It came complete with an empty pop bottle, which is probably better than a can. Back in my big iron days, I visited a site that had an ants nest in one of the disk drives. (They look a bit like this http://www.cs.bris.ac.uk/25/Bletchley/100_1750.jpg) This wouldn't have been too bad, except one of the little buggers decided to go for a walk across the disk platters and it completely wrecked it. The strangest support call I ever took went like this, which was at 8:30am. Me: "Good morning, xxxx company". Client: "Hello, it's Paul yyyy here, we've got a bir of a problem with our machine." Me: "OK, what's happening". Client: "It's covered in cement". Me: "Ha, ha, come on pull the other one". Client; "No, it REALLY is covered in cement". Me: "Well what am I supposed to do, bring a jack hammer?". Client: "We just need you to be here, when the insurance company arrives". What happened was, builders were pumping concrete at the building site next door to our client's offices. Back then (15 years ago) 'elf & safety was just about non-existent and most of these concrete pumping company's ran on a shoe string budget and maintenance was poor. Something clogged one of the hoses, which exploded and the liquid cement took out the windows of our clients office. Luckily there was nobody in the building as it was early morning.

spookyspoof Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Not found anything overly interesting but when I was working as a Repair Engineer for a laptop company, I had several jobs to fix under 'warranty'. The main cuplrits were teachers claiming that their laptops had just stopped working - cause of issue on one of them was surprising, a glass of red wine had been spilt over the keyboard, you can imagine the smell after a couple of days in transit!! another one included a maths teacher who was claiming that his laptop was over heating and was actually melting the keyboard, he was very concerned and wanted a replacement machine. Problem was very clear to see upon opening the said laptop - strange how the melted keys were in the shape of an Iron!! me thinks his wife was uphappy with him!! but generally normal cat hairs and dust bunnies inside PC's

Iain.Faulkner Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I've had one or two interesting discoveries in PC's Alongside the half eaten food items, general rubbish pens and pencils, we've also found condom's (thankfully not used) and in one printer we have had a mouse making itself a nest. Recently I was in reprographics when all of a sudden we heard a mobile phone start ringing....we looked all round for it and couldn't find it anywhere. Turned out it was buried in one of the Photocopiers and the engineer who'd just left site having repaired said photocopier had accidentally left it inside. My favourite though is where one of our Science Teachers found a snake sat in the science room printer...apparently he screamed a very high pitched scream and ran :-)
Ex-MGSTech Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I used to work for Compaq as a Field Service Enginer Over the years I had:- Toast in the CD draw Piece of Airfix kit in the FDD No RAM (pinched by another companies engineer!) and in one server so much carpet fluff that I could not read any text printed on the motherboard! tj2419 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Our students seem to treat the cd trays on the desktops as piggy banks putting coins in them then opening it and its disappeared!! They think it's magic. I see it as investment for a new virtual network. I'm making quite a profit
