i'm sure there some of ya that have had the QCA testing software running on the network. It was a government online testing system that was rubbish.

The government has scrapped the idea of doing nationally.

For some strange reason we are still running it.

We are the only school in herefordshire thats still running it.

The ICT coordintator thinks its great to use for pupil assessment. He doesn't care that its a pig to support.

any one still running it????

We've almost finished installing ours and we did a little practice session today with some of the pupils. I think we are supposed to be running live in two weeks. The delay is nothing to do with us.

Not using any more.

But I did think it showed some vision for a change, using open source components, and modular design. Non microsoft based, which was a bonus we felt (teach methodology, rather than software).

Although the admin burden is gone, we ran the tests fine and got some useful information out of it. Now we have to go back and look at other ways of assessing ICT.

The Head of ICT wants to use it for year 9 assessment or something, so we're still doing it.

Despite its general flakiness.

:markcuk

We have it running on Win XP, you should be able to install .net 1.1, 2, and 3 all on the same machine without them "interferring" with eachother.

we have a couple of programs that have weird setting for .net2 so when we install .net 1 it corrupts the settings for .net2 so we told rm where to stick it!!! lol

Doing the practice tests at the minute and the 'live' tests in May

I dont mind doing it that much, but its everyones failure to take any responsibility for it that pisses me off, no-one wants to learn how to adminstor it. I did my bit as defined by the documentation by installing the server/client. Im not going to sit there and schedule tests like I had to last year

Hoping we will just do it this year...getting a new server soon and hoping I dont have to install it again

We've dropped it until next year - much to my pleasure.

It has the following problems as I see it:

1) nightmare to install

2) poorly tested

3) network disrupting resource hog

4) for the time it is used for, the time it takes to set up and maintain far outweighs the advantage of using it.

And we aren't actually a school with year 9's in! We were going to be using it to allow for the kids to get used to it...

i wish we could ditch it.

I cant see why they can't make it all web based.

Apparently there are alternatives that are web based, but do cost about £k a year i think. Don't quote me!!

Oops  :D:p

@localzuk - that pretty much sums up why we've ditched it - the server its sitting on is doing almost nothing now

I plan to rebuild that server over summer and get rid of it.

If the school decides to use it in the future then i'll shove it back on

At my previous school we had it running on a Viglen Classlink 7 system with no problems at all apart from the usual problem of the software being a pile of crap. At one one of my current schools we are still running it :( and its if anything more temperamental than ever and this is a vanilla system.

Still running it here, and with very few problems, installed the latest tests the other day. I think they want to use it here for year 9 assessment as well, never really asked what they're using it for thou, was just told they still need it!

Now ours is setup properly, it doesn't really cause me any problems. The administration of the system, scheduling the tests etc. is the ICT directors responsibility, we just make sure it works properly when they come to use it.

Still running it here with absolutely no problems from day one really. We do have the odd station that fails to upload test results, but having them log on to another machine and restart the session usually sorts that one out. We're planning for the summative test and *should* be ready- but with Edexcel online exams and other things coming up...

Probably the worst piece of software we have ever installed on our network.

Deleted, removed and wiped with great happiness.
