Netman Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Just to be different I'd say get a 4S if you can afford one...
MK-2 Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Just to be different I'd say get a 4S if you can afford one... For any reason or just because you want to be different?
SimpleSi Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 it died about 3:30am which was slightly annoying!! Always have a spare battery on a night out Si
oalcock Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Made a purchase of an S2 contract last night! Wait till you hear this deal! £28 a month, 700 mins, 3000 texts, 1GB Data Free Samsung S2 £100 Instant Cashback. Works out that the phone tarrif is costing £7.16 a month. If you aren't after a new phone but your contract is up, sell the phone and take the cashback for a cheap contract perhaps?

(guessing 3 because it has to be too good to be true)
ihaveaproblem Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I'm on orange and you get 25% off (a month) if you can prove you work for government or a school. Is this true? I can get 25% off orange as a new customer just for working at a school? Any website that gives more info?
glennda Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Is this true? I can get 25% off orange as a new customer just for working at a school? Any website that gives more info? if thats the case i'm moving!
featured_spectre Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 No they don't do that. I tried and was told the 25% discount is a retention bonus if you take the same contract 5 times in a row.
newpersn Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I'm now on Orange with the galaxy s2. Ordered from phones 4u on a £23 a month,
oalcock Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 Finally received my new phone, it's beautiful! Why does it take them so long to activate the new SIM card though? I rang Orange and they said Phones4U will activate it on Wednesday and got the phone/sim pack on Friday. I love the phone, I can't see why somebody would pay so much more for an iphone at all! I downloaded a sat nav app from the market called Sygic, and have tried it a couple of times - and it appears to be VERY responsive and it's all in 3D. The features are amazing, downside = a little big and you can certainly feel it in your pocket. another downside = I choose white and I think maybe if I could turn back the clock I would choose black.

I don't know who told you that, but somebody in our office just got a contract last week - one of those £10 a month ones with the cheapo phone and it's only costing her £7.50 a month with the 25% discount.
MK-2 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 downside = a little big and you can certainly feel it in your pocket what phone (sorry, i've skipped straight to here this time)....i assume not the s2 as that thing is as light as a feather!
jcollings Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 No they don't do that. I tried and was told the 25% discount is a retention bonus if you take the same contract 5 times in a row. We certainly get it here. Even had a letter from the local Orange shop re-iterating we could have 25% discount.
oalcock Posted November 1, 2011 Author Posted November 1, 2011 S2 - It's light but I have to take it out my pocket if I am working on some cabling or something under a desk.
SimpleSi Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Just to redress the balance a bit on the Galaxy S2 - its very nice to look at but its got at least 2 issues. 1. Low headphone sound level (compared to other devices - 10dB down on my wife's HTC Legend) 2. There are GPS issues (I run my own speedlimit app and whereas it used to get a GPS lock by end of the road- now sometimes if doesn't get one for several miles/sometimes it gets a lock sooner but nowhere near as quickly/reliably as my old HTC Desire) Once you start trying to find out some facts on the T'internet - you get swamped by so much guff its very hard to discern the wheat from the chaff - this wasn't the case with the HTC Desire. featured_spectre Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Well said @Domino Put you're own ROM on there and enjoy it... Leedroid is a good one for Samsung, as is BlitzMod
Domino Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I had a serious geekcrush on litening ROM, but looks like the dev has disappeared for the time being so I've jumped ship to checkROM revolution till he returns. Seems fairly decent so far, and seriously shifts with the ninphetamine kernel. nice selections of themes/add-ons too

Si Si Weird, just put my SG2 on full volume and compared it to my Sansa clip mp3 at full whack, no difference. Just walked outside with my HTC Desire & my SG2, the SG2 locked onto GPS virtually the same time, about 45 secs for both.
Arthur Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 There are GPS issues The Galaxy S had GPS issues too... forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842694
mac_shinobi Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 The Galaxy S had GPS issues too... forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842694 Bit worrying then - which is a good android handset to get for GPS then as I was looking at the galaxy S 2 / HTC Sensation with beats, are there any other handsets android based or similar. My iphone 4 contract ends soon and was hoping to be able to use a micro sim card so I could swap the sim card between the iphone 4 and an android phone so I could use GPS on android and the iphone 4 as an ipod for in car music as got stuff purchased from the iTunes store which no doubt is encrypted and easier to get onto my iphone then it will be onto an android type phone.
SimpleSi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 @teejay Maybe its HTCs that are too loud then (I recorded them both into Audacity and there was a 10db diff) And like I say, the GPS long time to lock is flaky - I'll time how long it takes each time in the car today and post later. What does *#1234# give you back please? I get XWKF3 XXKE7 and XEUKD1 Build date Jun 9 Stop being a pansy then and put a custom ROM on it The 7 day return only ran out yesterday so give me a chance Put my phone into download mode and tried using Odin last night but it didn't seem to recognise my phone existed (Then had to pull the battery as there didn't seem to be a method to get out of download mode once your in it!)
