Google - Predicting most common searches.. Many not suitabel for schools.....

Hi,

 

Does anyone please know if google can be retricted to not show the most common searches when a student starts to type.??

For example, if you open google and start to type: "is it normal", you will get the top google searches starting with that phrase.

 

We use smoothwall and safesearch is already enabled.? Is there some other way any other school has found?

I think you can get rid of it by blocking suggestions.google.co.uk and sugestions.google.com

I have suggestions.google.co.uk and .com blocked and it doesnt help.

we also dont have google as a homepage, its browsed to by choice.

 

This appears in the smoothwall web logs when i start to type, but I cant block this as then searching doesnt work

RM Smartcache used to support wildcard entries.....

We have a redirect on our Squid box, so any google.com addresses have the safesearch part tagged on the end. If you can do something similar why not redirect all google.com/uk queries to google.com/?complete=0

If you click advanced view when you edit the category group (G3) you can block search suggestions - under search engines - block search suggestions, tick the box and save the change.

This should work for you.

Under "Search Engines / Search Suggestions", I ticked both "URL Patterns" and "Domain/URL filtering" for our "Student Block" category and this has worked.

Not sure if both are needed.

Yip, were on G3. I clicked "advanced" button/checkbox and got 2 options under search suggestions.

 

All sorted, but do I need both ticked?
