burgemaster Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 We have 2 x Samsung ML-3310 printers on the network. Both are added to the print server and shared. When anyone prints to either of them they both get the error popup from the status monitor. "The Port is not connected. Check it" (See attached screenshot) Has anyone come across this and solved it maybe The printer still prints the jobs after a small delay? Thanks in advance
Chris_ Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Did you manage to sort this issue?
burgemaster Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Sorry to resurrect an old thread. Did you manage to sort this issue? No mate, still getting the error. After a small delay it does print. do you use Sophos?
Chris_ Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 No. We use Symantec Endpoint Protection. We'e just replaced all our printers with Samsungs and this is slightly annoying!!
burgemaster Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) No. We use Symantec Endpoint Protection. We'e just replaced all our printers with Samsungs and this is slightly annoying!! It does this also when I try to print from our print server, so I don't think its the client. Our print server is a 2008 virtual server. Yes very annoying!! Edited January 3, 2012 by burgemaster
Chris_ Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The company that is supplying our printers is speaking to Samsung about it.. Hopefully they might provide a solution or a driver without the annoying popup.
Oaktech Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 we've got this too, and it is very annoying, not to mention off puting for the students. samsung are useless and can only offer to replace printers. The problem also seems to be intermittent, and seems related to the length of time taken to print. for example, a printer connected via usb to a machine and shared, prints very quickly with no error, a printer installed via ethernet on a server based print queue seems to take longer and gives the error. we are using eset, and the error seems unrelated.
burgemaster Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Removed Sophos from the client and the print server. This still happens, so thats sophos/antivirus ruled out. We get it 100% of the time. If we could just get rid of the pop up completely I would be happy.
Psymon Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 You are using standard TCP/IP ports? I had an issue like this with the HP "Auto-configure" on the HP Universal Print Drivers as we had pCounter (when the connection is tested by the HP software, it was going to the pCounter port, not the IP address / TCP/IP port. Simon

Simon Interesting.. I'll double check this as we are using PaperCut...
burgemaster Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Ours are all setup to use a TCP/IP port.. we do also use Papercut/Print Limit Pro by the way????? Do you think this is a papercut issue? There is an awesome offer on with these printers on ebuyer at the moment, £129 delivered with £80 cashback... Good printer for £49!!!
Chris_ Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Samsung have modified the print driver to remove the pop up. If testing with it goes well then we should be getting it on our network soon 2
Oaktech Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Samsung have modified the print driver to remove the pop up. If testing with it goes well then we should be getting it on our network soon can you provide a link to this version of the driver, i'm getting all manner of grief about this! Cheers
burgemaster Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Well done Chris, you got further than I did with samsung. Do you please have this driver/patch? Cheers
Chris_ Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I will do once we get it in school. We have a print contract so they are currently testing it before putting it into use on our network. We have the ML-3710ND printers.. not sure if it will be the same driver?
chazzy2501 Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) I get a similar problem on some of my HP printers, I can cure this issue by disabling the "monitoring" check box in the driver and also for one of my sharp printers the two way communications on the ip ports config. aka "bidirectional support" Edited January 12, 2012 by chazzy2501
Chris_ Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Drop me a PM and I'll send it over. Not sure if the same driver will work for the ML-3310?
pscharf Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Can you send me that driver. I will PM you once I make one more post. THX
plexer Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I've had a couple of 3310's for years and never seen this. Ben
davidfs Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I have recently added a 3310 to our Windows Server 2003 network and get this problem. The most recent driver posted by Samsung is dated 2007 and I have used this. Has anyone progressed this further please? Incidentally I have Ricoh and HP networked printers that don't give me this message.
