Ofsted - Does it involve senior ict technician / NM?

Hi

 

Just wondering if any of you have gone through an ofsted inspection at the secondary school you work at and whether you had any involvement in it? Did you have to answer questions? Show what you do to keep kids safe etc? Any experiences would be great, was just interested to see what it involved.

In my experience the inspectors have never approached the department for anything.

I have on two occasions in two schools, once in each school, been asked to talk to Ofsted in my capacity as Network Manager.

 

The meetings took the form of question/answer sessions [i was answering!]

 

I don't recall the details of the questions as even the most recent Q/A session was some time ago. All I can recall is a general impression of how the meetings went. I kept my answers short but I answered honestly. All things considered I seriously doubt I had much influence on the outcome of the schools' Ofsted inspections on these occasions.

I guess they could talk to you and topics are likely to include value for money, copyright and safeguarding. I must admit I haven't spoken to OfSTED inspectors in my capactity of Network Manager in their 2 visits I have been at this school. The theme of the inspection will also likely give you a clue whether you are likely to be asked to talk to them and what the topic of conversation may be.

It will vary from inspection to inspection, partly down to the expertise and knowledge of the inspectors, partly down to the focus on the inspection, and partly down to reaction to the inspectors' experience whilst in the school.

 

If there is a focus on safeguarding you may be asked to help respond, partly about your role in the decision making about filters and access to computers / resources. If there is a specific subject focus and that has a crossover with your work (i.e. you provide considerable resources / facilities) then that could be something they ask about.

 

In general the inspectors can speak to *any* member of staff, but only do so if they have a good reason to.

 

As Dave has said, as long as you answer truthfully there should not be a problem. Always be willing to say that you are not completely sure about something but explain who you would go to for support or advice. Try to have an awareness of the school policies (which everyone should anyway) but don't stress about it.

This school - ofsted twice to early years, ISI once to main school ( but due back soon)... Still nothing

10 years 2 Ofsteds, one due very soon. Not been asked anything. Well not true was asked if I could have a look at a laptop for an inspector once. Also they wanted to use our wireless.

The guy who picked up our Electronic waste mentioned that OFSTED may ask to look at your documentation for disposal. I think the NM here has spoken to OFSTED before but a while ago.

I did have a couple of questions asked because the ICT Co-ordinator couldn't answer or advised them that I could answer better. They were only simple questions like lifecycles and budget allocations etc. I dont think any of the questions asked made a difference.

Two Ofsteds here and we've never been asked anything.

2 ofsted's, all at different schools - never been asked a thing, not even where the toilets are.

 

Our shared tech has been involved in about a dozen over his years and all his schools ask him not to come in, but to be on call from our school - so he has had no involvement either.

14 years, 4 ofsteds and only time I've spoked to an inspector was to give them directions to the part of the school they were meant to be in 5 minutes ago
