I got talking about this the other day with my wife, who tells me that Event Horizon is the one for here, but I remained undecided. Eventually I narrowed it down to two. The first being the orginal asian version of the film The Eye (the US remake was utter shash BTW) and in particular the scene where she is in the lift and the spirit is right behind her.

And the second is The Wickerman for the final scene where Edward Woodwards character gets dragged in front of the wicker man and you know that there is no escape whatsover and things are going to get horrible. Best death scene ever!! Again, avoid the horrible US remake, the 1973 UK original is the one to see if you have not yet watched it.

Any romantic comedy! (kidding)

Probably the original Japanese version of the ring, or as you said, the original wickerman at the end, very good :)

Not many films make me jump or scared etc, as I know they are not real and whilst I may be gripped into the story line, I wont jump etc.

It's not the jumpy bit, but teh whole atmosphere of a film that does it for me. Fantastical gore-fests are simply too unrealistic to be scary, but implied terror and the fear of what may, or may not be there works every time for me, which is why I only watch Alien once a year!

Alien and Aliens 2. Watched the first one when I was around 9 year old and then camped in the back garden, only for it to thunder and lightening just like on the beginning of the film - age ratings are there for a reason, was scared of the dark till I was like *cough* 18 *cough*! lol

Saw 1 in that case....

+1 to the first Saw. The ending was completely unexpected.

I can't remember the last time I was scared because most films are so predicable. :)

What about the last Saw ( Saw 3D ) ??

Maybe not scarey as such but quite gruesome / gory etc ?

Definitely the Japanese version of the Ring and Ring 2. There were scenes in that that just creeped me out.

To be honest I don't think any Hollywood films have scared me in the same sense as the Japanese ones. Sure you might get a jump from the loud music and someone walking in front of the camera, but that's it. Not something that psychologically scares you.

The Eye was also the other that was quite bad. Audition was more gory than scary as was Battle Royale.

Does anyone remember the BBC 'Ghostwatch' Hallowe'en feature, shown in '92?

I tuned in without realising it was a hoax. Gave me the heebie jeebies. It was only the cheesy acting of the kids that made me twig.

As a kid I saw the bit of Salem's Lot where the boy floats outside the window..... *shiver*

For me? Event Horizon would be up there near the top, but I think it'd likely be Stephen King's IT. *shudder* I watched that at far too young an age, and it basically traumatised me.

Snap, watched both when I was well below the age on the R label, now I find it hard to be freaked out by movies as they are very close to comedies most of the time, they both rely on false assumptions and timing. When you view them like that it is just difficult to see them as scary.

Edit: oh, and zombie threads, they an be scary :)

Nightmare on Elm street dont know why as Horror films don't usually bother me too much but the first time I watched this really spooked me second time round I was fine, I did watch it on my own with no one else in the house so may have had something to do with it.

John carpenters "The Fog"

Not the tripe remake either, scared logs outta me.

At 9 years old I hadn't seen anything like it!

Friday 13th. The first one. Right at the very end when Jason leaps out if the lake. Needed new underwear shortly afterwards. And when I say first one, I mean the 1980 edition. Always liked Cunningham and Cravens stuff. Edited by mattx

Horror films aren't scary.

Scary films are like The Net, and the Enemy of the State - films that make you realise how much you can be manipulated by those in power. Those scare me.
