martyarf Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Yesterday I put my hand into a projector while it was still plugged in and grabbed a big hunk of metal. You ever have those moments when you think "Why have I survived this long? Surely I should have been weeded out by nature by now".

My arm is still tingling Ohhh I did that with one of the big LaserJet 4s. It was only as I pressed it I noticed the faint yellow warning label covered in toner. Arm throbbed for about 2 days!

Hightower Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 A little while ago I opened up a DVD player to fix the drive band on the drawer. I'd been on the shandy's since 6pm and it was about 11pm when I did it, so wasn't exactly sober. I unplugged it to work on it, but then plugged it in to test with the hood still off..... the drawer worked a treat but in my excitement I caught something with my hand on the inside - it threw me back into the chair and I spent the rest of the night wondering if my heart was going to stop.
DAZZD88 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I once naively thought my skills extended into the realm of diagnosing and fixing a PSU. Unfortunately, I didn't unplug it from the wall. So when I opened it up and my hand caught one of the capacitors...BANG!! Electric tripped off on that circuit and my arm was buzzed for about 2-3 hours. luckily nobody apart from my immediate colleague found out about my stupidity.

smithson83 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I attempted to replace a dull lamp in a projector when it had been on all morning, ignoring the "warning hot" label, pulling on the metal handle to remove it to descover it was indeed hot. It amused the class of children as the lamp flew across the room. (Something you tend to do only once)
korifugi Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I remember soldering something at home - I went for a better grip on my soldering iron, holding it inbetween my fingers in the same way you hold a pencil. I remember wondering "Whats that burning smell?" and hearing a dull sizzle to look down and realise what I was doing. I had to invent some new swear words for that one - the current batch wouldn't cut it.

Blew a small hole right through my thunb (sealed it at the same time). Now that hurt!! BTW its about 380V at a lot of amps from one of those smoothing caps in a switch mode psu when you short them out. Actually saw a crome Vanadium spanner MELT due to shorting out a psu cap! Alan
