No advertisers = no paper anyway.

Who cares when you're going for UK media control with a complicit government.

The Sun will be made on Sunday. The masses will be happy.

Hmm replacing one Murdoch gutter press tabloid with another. Please tell me the Great British Public won't fall for that?

Ah...

Sunday Sun has been going for years, it's a local paper covering the north east.

Indeed we were discussing that over the dinner table tonight at home how my sister who studys in the North East would have seen it more than the NoTW

Great shame actually as the NoTW wasn't a bad paper when your avoided some of the dross in it and recycled the 30% of the paper that was adverts

Killing a newspaper and making hundreds of back office staff redundant is not going to protect Murdoch or Brooks.

I think there are an awful lot of Skeletons about to fall out wardrobes.

I do find it amusing that the Daily Mail has the headline "The paper that died of Shame". lol

from what i'd read, this was planned for a while, and the sun on sunday was also planned. so at worst its probably brought their plans forward a bit.

i just love how every other paper is heralding this as the best news ever, not because of corruption, hacking, sadness, whatever....purely because it now means the sunday paper market is smaller so they have a chance of selling more. lets face it, no other sunday paper right now is thinking "ah good, the integrity of the british person has been upheld and all is right in the world".....its more "woooo now all the news of the world readers may buy our paper instead"

This is nothing more than a win-win situation for them.

Problem: Paper has a bad name, companies and readers threatening to boycott it.

Solution: Announce its closure and all profits from last two editions to go to charity.

Result: Increased sales in last ever paper as people buy a piece of history.

Outcome: Wait a few months for things to die down then Murdoch launches a new paper with a "fresh start". Sales will be through the roof and companies will clamour to advertise in the new paper.

As for the staff, they'd already made their deal with the devil and took Murdoch's shilling and worked on the decades of outright lies and scandals. If they had any integrity they'd have abandoned the paper long ago.

They have some great sports staff. They didn't have anything to do with phone hacking.

Anyway, since when did integrity pay the bills? :-)
