projector1 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 a pupil decided to use a teacher's laptop whilst the teacher went into the next room. The pupil went onto a search engine and typed in a word that i will not repeat on this site. what punishment would your school give to a pupil if they did the same. I know the staff member should have locked his laptop!
OutToLunch Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Monitor the student whilst they're logged onto their own PC and randomly pskill winword.exe, iexplore.exe etc just as it looks like they've worked hard, occasionally use VNC to search for NSync or other embarassing terms when they look away from the screen... BOFH? Moi?!
localzuk Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 I would send them to the deputy head who would send a letter home and they would be banned from using either the internet or computers in general for 2 weeks. I would also point out that by leaving the laptop unlocked the staff member has broken the Data Protection Act and could be prosecuted for it...
Sylv3r Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Obviouslly if the student searched for porn etc, that would be treat as them trying to access it within school using their account. Using someone else's especially a members of staff is even worse and will probably be excluded from school for 2 - 3 days. Our view here is that if you make an example out of it, other students will not follow suit.
derer1 Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 According to our AUP? Internal disciplinary action. In actuality? Nothing.
AlexB Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 We have a policy that you are responsible for the machine you are logged into, be you teacher or pupil. Depending on the teacher, make em sweat over what the school might do, enough that they definately make the child in question regret it... Same works for kids using other kids accounts and doing something wrong, we give ppl passwords for a reason, if they don't keep the computer or password secure its on their head.
pete Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Teacher would receive a bollocking from me, probably a milder one from SMT. The kid would be sent to the Deputy Head to explain themselves and be banned from network (or at least Internet) access for a couple of weeks. Depending on the exact nature of the offence, the kid may be suspended for a couple of days.
bossman Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 three days exclusion to a local rehabilitating centre. after that 1 week and after that police interaction depending on the severity of the case then probably permanent exclusion.
bishopsgarthstockton Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 bollock the teacher, there laptop so its there responsibility.
IT_Girl Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 At this School we have a Policy that every network user, students and staff, have to sign a Disclaimer Form stating that they will behave themselves when on the network. If anyone abuses this privilege, their account is disabled and the students’ names are added to an incident report. 3 strikes and their off the network until their parents come in and we explain what’s happened! I'm not sure what disciplinary action is taken against teachers...
Geoff Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 Given a 30min head start then the hounds and horse mounted IT support staff pursue.
davyboi Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 three days exclusion to a local rehabilitating centre. after that 1 week and after that police interaction depending on the severity of the case then probably permanent exclusion. a bit drastic isnt it? i work in primary schools so dont get stuff like this but if it was me probly stop thrte internet for a week and let teachers deal with them, biggest punnishment in primary schools though is stoping in at break lol also i think it would depend on the student if it was a kid that didnt usually do anything wrong it would be more likley overlooked than one that was in trouble every 2 mins
bishopsgarthstockton Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 hit the teachers hand using the side of a wooden ruller. that always works or you could give them 20 lashings during tomorrow mornings staff meeting.
