Our renewal has just come through for Censornet – Yearly licensing model with V3. I have been very happy with Censornet but I need to have a look around at what else is out there with regards to cost.

Can anybody who has used both give me a clue on which you prefer?

Thanks

Chris

It might be worth getting a smoothwall box in on trial and do a side by side test if you have the time / facilities to do so :)

Hi,

I would certainly suggest trailing a SmoothWall.

I believe GlobalAXS who advertise here are able to arrange trails if you want one.

I would get in touch with Smoothwall, they tend to be fairly candid about comparing their products with competitors and would organise a trial.

I haven't used censornet so can't directly comment on that.

I must admit I haven't used the newer Censornets, but I changed a primary school from Censornet to Smoothwall and its miles ahead of it then and its also Becta / DoE accredited thus should help tick any boxes related to protecting children, responsibilities etc as Censornet wasn't on that list.

Hi Chris,

I think you must mean v4 (CensorNet Professional) as the v3 branch was open source and there's no subscription to pay on that (in fact the project has been closed since 2006). However, if you are indeed still using v3 then please contact us regarding a special upgrade path for users of the original version.

Kind regards,

Tim

Just thought i'd poke my beak in and say Hi. Feel free to PM/phone/email me if you want to try smoothie - and yes we do have a bunch of partners who also provide additional services from internet connectivity to making the tea*

Think Censornet has changed a lot in a couple of years, not had a good look myself recently - a side-by-side trial wont hurt though :)

*may have made up that last bit
