Looking for a good Inkjet Printer

I'm looking for a good durable inkjet printer with reasonable running costs. We have lasers for the better work but I'm looking for something to print out the likes of primary childrens computer generated pictures. Any recommendations please?

 

We currently have some old Epson machines that came free with a cartridge order!

HP printers are always good, but avoid the very lowend usb ones, get one with a built in printserver if they do them

If you're going to buy a Inkjet for a school environment I'd suggest getting an HP Business Inkjet. The K550 seems to be well priced atm.

Or if you can get a cheap BusinessInkjet 1100dtn/1200dtn from somewhere second user I would go for that... cheap consumables and very robust. Speak to 1st Technologies.

The K550 takes the new HP88 vivera ink carts.

 

These can be had as remanafactured ones for £10 and I've seen one supplier list them at around £6.50 but I can't confirm that one at the moment.

 

They aren't that robust allthough the 550's are better than the 850 A3's

The HP Businessjets are good, as are these http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=6573&category_id=196&manufacturer_id=0 (HP 6940s) they have built in networking out of the box so are great value, and seem well built, they also weigh a bit due to having metal lids

We've got a coupld of Hp Business InkJet 2200 / 2230 here and I must say Im not particularly impressed with them - we seem to have problems with the paper feed meconsim on the majority of them. Print quality is OK but not fantastic also. We have a Canon i850 which is kept in our office which is not particularly used a lot the consumables are exremely cheap, its fast to run and the quality is extremely good.

The K550 is a pretty good bet but all the HP inkjets suffer from paper feed problems with prolonged use. This can be exacerbated by using poor quality paper...

 

On the upside the approach that tends to work with these printers is to:

- find some semi decent paper

- fan apart the paper before you fill the trays (ie: put some air in between the sheets)

 

Oh and as far as keeping the costs down, this printer is pretty damned easy to use refillable cartridges or even a CIS with, so you can make it even cheaper to run.

 

 

My advice would be to avoid any of the new Canon inkjets though... A complete rip off on consumables and likewise with the newest Epsons.

I would stick with your laser. Inkjet printers usually produce a higher quality print and are more expensive in the long run.
