Hello everyone,

Just a quick question to get an idea of what remote desktop software you all, and to what extent? At the moment we use VNC on the staff room computers in order to help over the phone but that's about it. To what extent do the rest of you provision remote assistance for staff members?

I've been seriously considering in using remote assistance. I think it can be configured from GPO. I just need to work out how practical it is. Probably one for after summer with my workload tho :(

We use CentraStage that has full RDP & VNC support along with features like remote command shell, FTP, remote Services viewer, remote registry editor, remote task manager, remote event viewer etc. Also has a complete audit feature to see installed software, hardware, device details, audit trail as well as a full monitoring feature for alerts or job execution.

I assume you don't use this on computers where there is confidential and sensitive information flying about? That's one of my main concerns really.

On the contrary, it's used throughout the whole of the LA for support in schools.

We just use Remote Assistance on staff PC's/Laptops.

This way staff then have to grant you access, and you don't fall into the confidential data side of things.

We use Skeep VNC for remote assistance of the staff machines: Skeep VNC Console

- It is just a free, basic VNC tool to remotley control machines, you can also remote onto servers from this colsole as well :)

In the ICT Suites we use LANSchool, each of the teacher machines in the suites have this installed & we have it installed in our office to oversee all the suites at the same time.

in schools i work for we use AB Tutor Control it is not a perfect tool but it is very user friendly and it does have alot of handy tools included. We also use it for classroom management

In my last job (NM of a secondary school), i deployed an Msi of VNC (made in-house) to every computer on the network.

In my current job, where i visit many different schools, i find that the technicians get up and walk all over to the school for the smallest of problems. I honestly can't get my head round how and why they havent done something similar to what i did in my last job.

Madness.
