Hi network41, No it wouldn't and it looks like the way I will have to go. I was just looking into ways of modifying what was there to stop any system confusion but couldn't find anything.

I have been searching for a while but not getting much out of my trusty friend Google at the moment, so wondering if someone else out there might be able to share some wisdom. By default, Windows has a Scheduled Task under Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > SystemRestore called SR. This is set to run daily on System Startup and at Midnight however I would like it to run a little more frequently. Obviously I can modify this manually on the odd machine, however I want to change the settings across multiple machines through GPO. I know how to create a scheduled task in GPO but how to I edit the already created task under the above location? Any Ideas? Thanks James

Thanks for your response on this MordyT, I never got to post before leaving work. The additional schedules I created in the Task Scheduler appear to be making the previous version successfully on the local files so it looks to be sorted out. I will keep and eye on it and if I find anything else out on this I will post back . Cheers for responding though.

Hi MordyT, We aren't having issues with the files that are stored on the servers, it's any documents that the users have stored on their local machines (we don't have My Documents / Documents redirecting to the server). I'm talking about the files that are stored on the local machine under Documents, Pictures, Music etc... I have added additional times to the Task mentioned in the OP (so it will run at 1pm every day) to see if this will generate any previous versions so will post an update later on. J

An update on this, I have found out that for the C:\ Drive, you can right - click > Properties and then show the previous versions of the C:\ Drive (incidentally, you can open a previous version of the C:\ Drive and then go through this to find previous version of files, however this isn't ideal) The ideal solution would be to have Previous versions of files showing on the Previous Versions tab for that file. Any ideas / possible solutions greatly received Cheers J

Hi everyone, I have an interesting one here. I have been trying to get the Previous Versions running successfully on the clients so that if any users require it, they can get back older versions of their local documents however I can't seem to get it to do anything. When the user clicks on the "Previous Versions" tab on the file properties, no files are available which would suggest that they haven't made any modifications, however they have made multiple modifications. I've had a poke about in Google and various places but all of them are saying the same thing; System Protection needs to be switched on etc... which it is and configured to Restore system settings and previous versions of files. I can't see why it isn't working :/. I noticed in the Task Scheduler under Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > SystemRestore that there is an SR task set to run every day at midnight or at System Startup which, by my understanding, should be creating restore points for files automatically. The history says that the task completed successfully but files have still not got previous versions (again we know they should have as they have been modified before). Can anyone let me know if they have had this working at their end and if so how they got it working? I should add that all our clients are running Windows 7 x64 and are connected to a domain network (Server 2008R2). Thanks Regards J

Another option could be to use OS Forensics This page explains about recovering deleted files: OSForensics - Recover and Search Deleted Files (not in Recycle Bin) I have used it during forensic investigations for my uni course but could be useful here and you don't need a license for it just use the trial version, it should allow you to do everything, maybe just for a limited time or something like that

Hi all, Hope the weather is good where you are?! We have a little problem with our HP DC7900 Ultra-Slim Desktop machines. They have the monitor connected to the standard VGA which works fine. To display this on the projector, we are using the HP Display Port Adapters, however whenever we have to connect these to the machine (if they aren't detected for whatever reason), the machine's fan spins up to full speed & stays that way until you reboot the machine. I can't see anything online about it and wondered if anyone else has come across this and maybe knows a fix for it? We currently have the latest drivers for the device. Thanks James

I don't know whether you managed to get what you were looking for in the end but incase you're still looking, we use suppliesforschools . They're really good and can somtimes come in a lot cheaper than other places online. Also IDNSAV.co.uk are another good company to use - we get quite a bit of stuff from them...

Most of our laptops in our Trolleys are HP Compaq 6730b machines. Really reliable and if anything happens i.e. keyboards get broken, lcd's break etc... they're really easy to replace and quite cheap (if you don't go through HP Directly anyway...)

I am currently working in a full time position (IT Support at a Swindon School) so looking for a part-time course to do at college / uni - anyone got any good ones that i could look at? Primarily i'm thinking of getting a head start on learning stuff like programming and (adding to my very basic knowledge on) website design. But has anyone done a course that they can recommend? Hi Tailor, MCITP will be perfect if you haven't done any Microsoft Courses before & depending on your experience. We have a Evolis Pebble which has been in for about 18 months - 2 years. We certainly haven't completed as many cards as 1600 but done a lot of them and *touch wood* it hasn't broken yet. Digital-ID was the website that we got it from I believe (or at least where we are buying our peripherals for it from). I recommend them - really good service and quite cheap...

Hi JamesBrown, This sounds like an issue with the Printer Drivers. What are the printers that are installed & the drivers that they are using? The best thing I have found to do is reinstall the printers. Go into Devices and Printers & remove the Printer & Drivers. If the Drivers won't uninstall from the machine - go into the Print Management tool (search for this from the start menu) & then remove them from there. Sometimes I have found I need to reboot the machine a few times and restart the print spooler to remove them completely. Once all that has been done, re-install the local printer(s) first and make sure that works (and subsequently isn't the cause of the issue) Then install each of the network printers separately again to make sure that one of those isn't the fault. If any of them do cause the problem, check the drivers for the printers are the latest versions for the OS you're using. Let us know how you get on Good Luck J

Flakes has the right idea... We are doing a similar thing, we have a pile of machines that have broken screens which we aren't replacing at the moment as they cost too much!! So the machines are just sitting in the office until the departments start shouting that they don't have any machines left to use (by which point they might have gotten the message that they can't let the kids keep vandalising the machines!) The keyboards on a lot of them have been replaced - we have been quite lucky and managed to get them all replaced on warranty (once anyway). Any that have been broken again then we aren't replacing them at the moment... they will just sit until the teachers shout! We'll see how long this goes on for.

Has Microsoft released a full Service Pack now?? I thought that the SP they have just released had a load of issues - causing fatal errors...?

We use Skeep VNC for remote assistance of the staff machines: Skeep VNC Console - It is just a free, basic VNC tool to remotley control machines, you can also remote onto servers from this colsole as well In the ICT Suites we use LANSchool, each of the teacher machines in the suites have this installed & we have it installed in our office to oversee all the suites at the same time.

Thanks very much for this Sean, I managed to get the package built I haven't managed to deploy it over ARD unfortunately, but that's becuase I don't understand XML coding & also don't know how the UNC paths work on Mac's. ( I have had a play about but just can't get it to work) I tested the package on one machine & this worked successfuly so at least we can start this running manually and then just leave it running.
