I've done this with SCVMM 2008 and can't see why it can't be done with 2012. It's as straight forward as it seems and works very well. Don't know if it's supported, but I wasn't too concerned with that as it was purely a testing exercise.

As the block size is set when you create the datastore, I would wait until you've implemented vSphere 5. You're only going to be duplicating the workload by moving before then.

Testing has shown that for it to have any appreciable effect, you need to be applying hundreds of GPOs. In real terms, very few of us will ever notice.

I've always subscribed to the idea of creating GPOs for specific tasks. It makes the management of their settings easier if you know which GPO to alter. It also makes it easier to disable specific settings in that GPO by disabling that particular GPO rather than going in and altering the settings individually. A couple of things to remember when applying GPOs is the order in which they are applied and that it's not the number of GPOs applied, but the number of settings that control login or startup times.

It all depends on how often you have set the DPM server to create recovery points. SQL servers are set to create a restore point every 15 minutes, file servers tend to be every hour.

XP Mode didn't work when I tried it, and it was too confusing for the end user. Didn't try Remote App, but having had difficulties with using it for SIMS, I didnt get far enough to run Nova through it.

Nova T4 is a 16bit app. Windows 7 x64 will not support 16bit apps. Only options are to move to T6 or using Windows 7 x86.

I've seen this once before and it's usually associated with a clash between the installed drivers and a new one. Uninstall any gfx card driver from your system using device manager, reboot, and on statup it should look for the correct drivers without any corruption from the preinstalled one.

What I dont like about the way our LA did things was the continual moving of the goalposts. We were all told at the start that everyone would pay a flat rate for the service and this was to allow connections to the more rural areas of the county. FGine we said we can understand that. Even when the HTG was lost we accepted a slightly higher price, for the sake of the county. Then the pricing structure changed. We no longer all paid a flat rate, the rate was changed to a cost per student and member of staff. Now the situation is that I pay more for a 10Mbps service than another school pays for a 100Mbps service!! Why are we being penalised because we are a bigger school, at the end of the day we are using the same sized pipe irrespective of how many students we have. I'm afraid the argument that as a "bigger school, you get more money per student" doesnt wash either, because as school in a moderate income area, we get very few grants or assistance that other schools in more deprived areas get. But price wasnt the only factor in our decision to move. The poor service didnt help either. Rant over....

Multiple RAID types can be implemented on a DL360 G6, so I would guess they can be on a G7 too.

You need to use the GPMC on your 2003 server. Almost all of the settings applied by a 2003 server are used by Windows 7 Clients. You only use the GPMC on a Windows 7 Client if you need to specifiy specific Windows 7 settings, but as you've already found out, most of those policies also require a Windows 2008 server. Redirection should be configured on 2003 servers in a mixed domain anyway, because Windows 7 has additional options that can really confuse XP redirection.
